2Introduction To Coaches across Continents
Coaches across Continents is a not-for-profit
organization that uses soccer as a vehicle to
change individual lives and support communities
in developing regions
- Approach
- Coaches Across Continents collaborates with local
organizations that demonstrate a shared vision of
the value of using soccer to develop life and
leadership skills for children - Experienced soccer educators train local coaches
and work with local children providing a cascade
model where coaches coach coaches to educate
children, ultimately creating community leaders - Accomplishments
- After the success of programs in India, South
Africa and Tanzania, organizations from 73
countries requested the services of Coaches
across Continents - In 2009 additional programs will be started in
Malawi, Uganda and Zambia
3The Hat-Trick Initiative Our Successful Model
The Hat-Trick Initiative provides a framework for
a sustainable education model that develops a new
generation of leaders and educators in developing
communities
- The Model
- A 3 year interactive coaching and education model
delivers our curriculum to local teachers,
coaches, and community leaders - Year 1 Expert soccer educators are sent to
train local coaches and leaders (first 3 years) - Year 2 Local educators and coaches travel
abroad to receive continued training that they
can bring back to their communities - Year 3 CaC provides equipment, ongoing
mentorship and an online curriculum that ensures
each programs sustainability - The Investment
- 81K funds each 3 - year program and the ongoing
maintenance of the program - Expenses include travel, accommodation,
equipment, on-line mentoring, fields, and school
supplies
- The Results
- Each program impacts 33K children and 330 local
teachers/coaches - These numbers continue to grow as a function of
the programs continual sustainable growth
4Goals4Leaders with Harvard Soccer
The Harvard Soccer Initiative will kick-off
fundraising efforts with the Goals4Leaders
campaign beginning April 2009
- Goals4Leaders Family, friends, and fans, as well
as alumni networks and local businesses and
corporations, will pledge donations for every
goal scored by the Harvard soccer team in 2009 - Our goals is to raise 1000 per goal, all of
which will contribute directly to building 5
Harvard Hat-Trick Initiative programs - All supporters will become part of the Harvard
Soccer Team's Goals4Leaders community, a network
of individuals and organizations invested in both
the on-field success of the Harvard Crimson as
well as supporting positive, sustainable change
in Africa
- Goals4Leaders will support current
student-athletes, as well as alumni, who will
travel to Hat-Trick Initiative programs in Africa
as soccer educators - As a pioneer in the field of social
responsibility, the Harvard Soccer Initiative
will act as a model for other teams and
organizations to use soccer as a vehicle for
social change

The Goals4Leaders campaign will create a dynamic
community of Harvard Soccer supporters and
sponsors invested in the teams success on and
off the field

Athlete Participation
- Student athletes from the Harvard soccer teams
will be chosen as Goals4Leaders leaders to help
Coaches across Continents staff strategize
marketing, publicity, and fundraising efforts - A strategic committee of Coaches across
Continents, Goals4Leaders leaders, and
dedicated members of the Harvard soccer community
will lead corporate and alumni fundraising
efforts - Each 'leader' will be in charge of 4-8 fellow
athletes who will all help raise pledged
donations together as fundraising groups - The men's and women's team will compete to raise
the most total money - Student athletes will be chosen to travel to the
Hat-Trick Initiative programs in Africa as
official soccer coach educators
7A Winning Partnership
The Harvard Soccer Initiative and the
Goals4Leaders campaign will energize the entire
Harvard Soccer community and foster sustainable
development in Africa
- The G4L campaign will provide leadership and
service opportunities for Harvard Soccer student
athletes - CaC will help send Harvard athletes and alumni to
Hat-Trick communities, giving them the
opportunity to experience and contribute to
grassroots change in developing regions - G4L will increase public awareness surrounding
the Harvard soccer program, exciting fans, family
and friends and galvanizing an enthusiastic
alumni network - The Harvard Soccer Initiative will create 5
Hat-Trick communities, sustainable programs that
together will affect the lives of over 400,000
children in the next 5 years - Harvards proactive model of success will act as
a template, allowing other universities and
athletic programs to help grow the movement of
creating social change through soccer
