3Our team is divided into two groups, the 5th
grade teachers, and the 6th grade teachers.

4Overview of our project partner, Home-Hi
- An independent local middle school for girls
currently with 35 students.
Curriculum includes a diverse selection of math,
science, and fine arts classes.
Strong desire to expose girls to computers and
technology at an early age.

7Our students will be using LEGO
MINDSTORMSRobotics Invention System 2.0
8Programming with RCX code
Based off of LOGO, the commands are quite simple
and easily understandable
RCX code is a drag drop programming
environment
9Using Legos, we will teach students about parts
of machines that go into a complete robot.

Our second lesson dealt with gears and their
possible uses.
10So far we have met with the girls twice.
11We have also worked on developing a website in
order to
help record our lessons for others to implement
and adapt in the future
provide the girls with a fun, hands-on learning
experience.

achieve the following
Leave the girls with an idea of basic programming
and robotics skills.
Have a battle bots competition between the
groups of 5th and 6th grade girls.
Have an fully laid out lesson plan that is clear
and can be implemented and adapted to other
curriculums.
