    rural area offering mainly vocational training
    at lower levels
  • 500 full time 16-18yr olds and 2,500 adult
    enrolments
  • 120 partners in 22 different countries built
    up mainly through European projects

    training both college based and in the
    workplace

    area

  • Launched basic construction courses in 2007
  • Developing expertise in rural tourism

What groups have we chosen?
  • Our choice of groups to focus on reflects the
    characteristics of the local community
  • People living in rural or disadvantaged areas
  • Young adults (15-25 age range) at risk of social
    marginalisation
  • Other economically or socially disadvantaged
    groups

Whats our interest in the project?
  • Involvement with partners in a well-managed
    project
  • Identifying similarities between occupational
    standards and expectations
  • Involvement of teaching staff in the project and
    mobilities

What are our expectations?
  • That this will be a successful project
  • That without clear objectives it could become too
    broad
  • Achievement of the goals may not be
    straightforward
  • New partnerships and friendships will be built up
  • It will be hard getting the work done
  • It will involve fun

Whats school based training like?
  • SCHOOL Based
  • Schools traditionally offer A levels (Level
    3)
  • - some offer vocational qualifications
  • Colleges traditionally offer vocational
    qualifications (Levels 1 to 4) alongside A
    levels
  • - many offer apprenticeship programmes in
    partnership with employers
  • - some offer degree level qualifications,
    including vocational foundation degrees
  • New vocational 14-19 Diplomas (Levels 1 to 3) are
    being offered in partnerships between schools
    and colleges

Whats work based training like?
  • WORK Based
  • Apprenticeships (Level 2) and Advanced
    Apprenticeships (Level 3) can be offered by
    employers, often in partnership with a college
  • The content of the apprenticeship frameworks is
    determined by Sector Skills Councils, but will
    include an appropriate National Vocational
    Qualification (NVQ)
  • Most college apprentices are employed
  • NVQ Assessors can be company based or visit from
    the college

What policies and standards for VET are there?
  • National qualifications
  • Awarding Bodies (including employers now)
  • Sector-specific bodies to design NVQs etc.
  • New Diplomas to be in partnerships
  • Quality of provision checked through inspection
    etc.
  • Funding removed for poor-quality provision
