Social Economy Democracy
  • The Level of Democracy is directly related to
the level of active integration and contribution
of all People without any entry barriers in terms
of race, gender, ability, age, colour It is a
matter of the choice of being ranked between the
Modern Advanced EU Economies socially sustainable
or remaing Old Wild Unequal Economies Eu is
at first an Europe of Regions, Cultures and
People, and after an Europe of Capitals
  • A note of the Author

3
Bill Drayton, Ashoka
  • Social Entrepreneurs are not content just to
give a fish, or teach how to fish.
  • They will not rest until they have revolutionized
    the fishing industry

4
Social Economy
  • The third system of the 3 systems of the Economy,
(1st private profit oriented, 2nd public
    service, institutions, planned), which comprises
  • Social enterprises (fair trade companies,
    mutuals, social businesses,)
  • Voluntary organisations (charities, voluntary
    organisations,..)
  • Family economy (diaspora,)
  • Community economy (social firms, community
    enterprises, time banks,..)
  • Self-help economy (clubs, family, grey economy,..)

5
Social entrepreneurship
  • Tens of definitions each definition (or group of
similar definition) is the result of the specific
    (similar) characteristics of each
Region/Macroregion, that is why we have to talk
    about regionalism
  • Ethnical
  • Cultural
  • Geographical
  • Political
  • Governmental
  • Economical
  • Historical
  • Level of Democratic and Maturity
  • Resources
  • Religion
  • ..

6
Social Entrepreneurship
  • Three main group of definition(s)
  • A Cost-Cutting SE as initiatives of non-profit
organizations to face cost-cutting (eg.from the
    State or PA)
  • B Social-Oriented SE as initiatives of
    indipendent (social) entrepreneurs to reduce
    social problems
  • C Social-Responsible SE as the socially
    responsible behaviour in commercial activities
(related to CSR concept, eg. SA8000)

7
Social Entrepreneusrhip
  • A modern EU mirror definition, in the light of
the concept of modern sustainable development
  • SE stays at sustainable development as CSR stays
at it in other words, EU defined (2002) CSR as
    the business contribution to sustainable
development, the 2nd pillar of sustainable
development (1st Govs, NGOs, Funds, Inter,
Org.,), and, as a mirror, SE (the 3rd pillar)
as the contribution of individual entrepreneurs
(who became social or ethical entrepreneurs) to
    sustainable development

8
Social Entrepreneurship CSR
  • They are separate pillar of a common system,
both classic economy or modern sustainable
    development one.
  • CSR (many definitions, but an attempt of group
those)a concept where companies, who generate
and redistribute profits, integrate social and
    environmental concerns in their business
operations and in their interaction with their
stakeholders on a voluntary basis. Being socially
responsible means not only fulfilling legal
expectations, but also going beyond compliance
and investing more into human capital, the
environment and relation with stakeholders (eg.
    SA8000)
  • (Definition by European Commission Green Paper of
    2001)
