85.000 passengers and approximately 700 tons of
cargo per year arrived. - There was a rapid decline of the passenger
volume as well as cargo since the year 1991, when
the war on the Balkans broke out. - Maribor Airport had regular scheduled flights to
over 10 destinations, mostly Mediterranean
region, and connecting flights to many major
European cities. - Cargo traffic flowed mostly to Russia, Middle
East and Africa. - Airport Maribor has offered its capacities to
Swissair, Aero Lloyd and LTU, Deutsche BA and

4CURRENT SITUATION
- Company Aerodrom Maribor Ltd. has 25 specially
educated and licensed employees. - Ownership of the airport infrastructure is
divided between the Aerodrom Maribor Ltd. Company
and Republic of Slovenia. - In the past two years Airport Maribor has
renovated its own infrastructure as well as a
part of state owned objects. All the renovated
objects comply with required airport standards. - Runway has been overlayed in 1999.
- We currently administer parking lots, warehouses
and we ensure the flight conditions for the
air-sport center and enable the services for the
VII. category airport. - Since 2002 cargo traffic has risen from 800
tones to 6000 tones annually and the number of
aircraft has risen from 401 in 2001 to 998 in
2003.
5ADVANTAGES
- Airport Maribor has a very good geo-strategic
position - it lies on the crossroads of V. and X.
European traffic corridors. - Airport is connected to the highway and has a
possibility of railway connection, which offers a
wide range of opportunities in wider EU area - it is Slovenias alternative public airport
- it is intertwined with the tourist region. We
are making strategic alliances with the tourist
agencies and representatives of tourist
destinations, who could help with the
revitalisation of the airport and the surrounding
region. - it is the strongest logistics support for
Slovenias industry. Company Aerodrom Maribor has
strategic connections with large industrial
companies , because our business plan includes
the building of trading and manufacturing zones
as a part of multimodal logistics centre.
Pan-European corridor V. (Planned projects in
Slovenia by 2012)
6ADVANTAGES
- Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia
with around 134.000 residents. In surrounding
regions further 327.000 people reside, who
gravitate to Maribor. The whole part of the
country which gravitates to Airport Maribor is
757.000 people or 39 of the entire population. - Gravitational area includes
- Maribor
- Celje
- Pomurje
- Koroska
- Savinjsko Saleska region
- The area has approximately 9500 companies which
is 25 of all Slovenian companies. These firms
employ cca. 205.000 people or 35 of all
employees in the country.
7ADVANTAGES
In the international scope the Maribor airport
has excellent opportunity to enter into markets
which gravitate towards airport Graz (Austria)
and Zagreb (Croatia), with competitive offers and
services. Gravitational area includes 800.000
potential customers.
8FUTURE
9AIRPORT MARIBOR
- Part of infrastructure has not been renovated
since the initial opening in 1976. That is why we
are planning investments for - Reconstruction of terminal building, workshops,
warehouses and hangars. - Equipment for terminal building
- Vehicles
- Hydrant network
- Technological equipment
- Radio-navigational equipment
- We are negotiating subsidies for the
reconstruction with the government of Slovenia.

10MULTIMODAL LOGISTICS CENTRE MARIBOR
- Main goal of the multimodal logistics centre is
stimulation of the regional economy, with the
purpose of increasing the flow of cargo in
North-East part of Slovenia, which is the
foundation of development for the modern
logistics infrastructure and industrial zones. We
hope to become a part of European Transport
Network TEN network in V. corridor. - After May 2004, when Slovenia becomes an outright
member of European community, Schengen border
with non-EU countries will stretch on the South,
South-West of Slovenia along the border with
Croatia. - Maribor is located 25 km from the Croatian
border, hence it is the most suitable location
for the logistics centre from the geopolitical
point of view, as Maribor will be the last stop
when exiting or entering the EU. - Another advantage is that airport Maribor has a
possibility of three different modes of
transport air, rail and road.
Development of the logistics centre with
industrial zones would encompass cca. 15.000 m2
of gross area and 5.000 m2 of covered area. It
will also include a distribution centre,
manufacturing facilities, different types of
warehousing including a customs warehouse,
loading and unloading capacity and a duty free
trade zone.

11EUROPEAN MUSEUM OF MILITARY AERONAUTICS
The project was launched three years ago with an
initiative from EU for creation of the European
museum of military aeronautics in Slovenia which
would present the aircraft technique and
technology, aeronautic history, as well as the
documentation of all European states from the
beginning until the present day. The Defence
committee of West European Union, has visited
Slovenia twice and has supported the initiative.
They have also presented the project to the
cultural committee of EU and their president de
Puig, who has expanded the idea of a military
aeronautic museum to an all-encompasing Europan
project. The decision to erect the museum in
Maribor, Slovenia was met with highest
approval. Ministry for culture and Ministry of
Defence of SLovenia have the operational
responsibility for the project, as well as
ensuring the financial support.
The project already has ensured funds in
national budget of Slovenia for 2004 and 2005.
12AERONAUTICAL MAINTAINANCE ACTIVITIES
Aeronautical industry is moving towards greater
safety of aircrafts, therefore we are expecting a
change of law towards the service and repair of
aircrafts which has not been regulated in
Slovenia. Companys vision originates form the
anticipation for the change in regulations
(because of EU entrance) as we are expecting the
need for regular maintenance service for the
general aviation. Aerodrome Maribor will offer
authorised service, repair and maintenance
activities accompanied with know-how for the
specific types of aircraft (eg. Cessna). For this
purpose we are planning a new service hangar,
which will facilitate all the service and
maintenance needs at the airport. With the
vision of future service, repair and maintenance
needs, we are currently working on the project
for the service of Cessna aircrafts and general
aviation.
13MILITARY EDUCATIONAL CENTRE FOR PARACHUTING
Parachute manufacturers and professional
(military) parachute units feel the need for
additional capacities for testing and training.
Europe has limited capabilities for facilitation
of these needs and with the international
integration of Slovenia they are only growing.
Our development plans also include an
international project for training and schooling
centre for professional skydivers, which will
offer the possibilities for theoretical and
practical education of NATO soldiers. Project
includes military and educational institutions as
well as other supporting companies.
