2?acefir SENIOR CITIZENS AND EDUCATION
The work in ACEFIR for Education and Senior
Citizens has been always in the aims of the
organization. The coordination of the project
Older adults as helpers in a learning process
together with the worries for the education of
young people and adults, were the issues which
made start our association.
3SENIOR CITIZENS ECUACATION IN CATALONIARESULTS
- We have noticed that in a few years we have done
a very big step, because actually we are in a
similar level than other countries that have a
very old democracy. - The great number of programmes about senior
citizens developed by organisations as well as
for the Autonomic and Local Institutions, makes
us to reaffirm the big effort that our country is
doing in this field.
4PARTICIPATION IN PEFETE NETWORKRESULTS
- Thanks to the participation in the PEFETE network
has been created the Catalan sub-network - EduGran, Senior Citizens and Education
- composed by
- ACEFIR, Catalan Association for Education,
Training and Research, Girona. - DEMÀ Association, Department of Studies of
Current Means, Barcelona. - Faculty of Psychology, Education and Sport
Science Blanquerna, Universitat Ramon Llull,
Barcelona. - Faculty of Psychology from the University of
Barcelona. - Lecture Rooms of Senior Citizens of the
University of Girona.
5PARTICIPATION IN PEFETE NETWORK INITIAL
OBJECTIVES OF EDUGRAN
The main issue of this research is to
demonstrate How the participation in learning
activities, is improving the quality of life for
senior citizens?
- Objectives
- To pick up information about good practices of
senior citizens education in our country and in
the rest of Europe. - 2. To value the participation of the senior
citizens in learning activities at a formal, non
formal and informal level. - 3. To value the participation of the senior
citizens in learning activities in the rural as
urban areas. - 4. To analyze how they are satisfied in their
involvement in learning activities, and how it
influence in their quality of life. - 5. To propose criteria when designing learning
activities.
6AFTER 1st YEAR WORKING EduGran older adults
and education
- When we started the research, we noticed that
there was a lack of centralized information about
the learning activities provided for older
adults. It made necessary to establish a new aim
for the work field - Its necessary to know the wide range of
activities provided, before knowing how they
value these activities.

8AFTER 1st YEAR WORKING Work hypothesis
- H1- Starting with educational-leisure offer,
senior citizens can choose for leisure activities
more than learning activities. - H2- The offer of learning activities is less in
the rural areas than in the cities. - H3- Senior citizens use to participate in those
activities that are closed proposed by
organizations or institutions who also organize
them. - H4- There is a lack of a reference information
about institutions and organizations which
provide learning activities, and also a good
joint classification system for all of them. - H5- Looking at the diversification and lack of
unity in the services, we ask for a lack of
training for trainers.

11AFTER 1st YEAR WORKING FIRST RESULTS
- It is needed a bigger politic effort in education
and senior citizens in order to attain a good
manage of the resources. There are many
activities, but not enough planned. - In the rural areas, where the most important
thing is the social relationships, there is a
contradiction between motility and planning of
activities.
12PEFETE - EduGranFuture proposals
- Its good to remark that the sub-network EduGran
has been awarded by a financial organization
(Caixa Sabadell), within their Senior Citizens
Awards. - After this first year, we must think in the
future - What is the next step?
- Our proposal is to present the work of PEFETE
network and the results of EduGran research in
the different Forums about Senior Citizens and
about Adult Education, to think and discuss with
the policy makers, in order they keep it in mind
when taking decisions. - PEFETE network can help in a big measure that
this kind of actions attain the results we hope.
