6Coming-of Age Day
- At the age of 20, young people celebrate their
passage into adulthood on Coming-of-Age Day, the
second Monday in January. - For this occasion, many girls wear furisode
(kimonos with long flowing sleeves) and some boys
wear haori (half-coats) and hakama decorated with
their family crests.

7Weddings
At weddings, the bride wears a pure white kimono
known as a shiromuku. The color white signifies
the beginning of a journey. Bride and grooms
mothers wear black- tomesode,so that the other
women relatives used to wear colored-tomesode for
their respects to them , but these days
black-tomesode is also acceptable.

- When Japanese women attend funeral,they wear
black kimono which has family crests called
Mohuku with black items obijime, obiage, zori
and obi.The haneri and tabi have to be white.
