PROGRAM
plc-youths VISION To improve the image of
trade unions in the community through various
outreach programs which aim to help eliminate
poverty and child labor.

PROGRAM
is a symbol of urban neglect for the
Philippines People living daily with the sight
and smell of garbage and families living out of
its filth. Life in the Payatas is only bearable
on a good day. The constantly burning dump is
intolerable by most standards. Chemicals and
diseases cut the lives
of these people short.

Another appalling sight are
children scavenging for recyclables
children that should be in school or
enjoying their childhood.

The plc-youth OUTREACH
PROGRAM
Since the start of the 2nd Quarter 2006, the
UNI-PLC Youth Committee has conducted Food for
the Children Program for more than a hundred
children in the Payatas Area.
The 6-month long program is intended for
malnourished children aged 7 years old and below
and costs only P10.00 per child/day or a mere
USD0.20. Barangay Volunteers who help prepare
and feed the children aim to provide them with at
least one highly nutritious meal daily for the
duration of the program.

PROGRAM
The initial phase of the program was funded by
voluntary contributions from the members of the
UNI-PLC Youth Committee. The challenge now is to
find ways to financially sustain the program
through solicitation of donations and
fund-raising activities.
Last July 2006, our counterpart from UNI-LCJ were
treated to a firsthand experience of the plight
of these children and they initially donated
P10,000.00 (USD200.00), enough to feed the
children for two weeks.

Besides the Food for the Children program, we
are also thinking of other ways of helping these
children. After feeding their body, we hope to
feed their mind, too. A good education is a nice
start.
