Title: Using and Citing Pictures on the Internet

Using and Citing Pictures on the Internet
  • By Miss Houghtaing

2
Finding Pictures
  • You can find pictures just about everywhere on
the Internet. Almost every website has a picture
    on it.

3
Is it okay to use the picture in my work?
  • If you like the picture and want to use it
someplace else, you have to make sure that you
are not stealing the picture from its owner. A
good rule to follow is Unless the owner of the
picture gives you permission to use the picture,
    dont use it!
  • Some people want you to pay money to use their
pictures, but then they will let you use them.
However, you still need to give the owner credit
    for the picture.
  • Some people are willing to share their pictures
with you and you dont even need to ask
permission. You can find these pictures at free
clipart sites. However, you still need to give
the owner credit for the picture.

Getting and Saving the Picture
  • Once you find a picture that you like, there are
two ways to save the picture
  • Cut it and paste it into your work. This is not
the best way because sometimes the picture is
blurry. Also, if you decide to move the picture
someplace else, you can lose it because it is not
saved anyplace, but where you are using it. Plus,
sometimes you dont want to use the picture right
and its easier to save it for later.
  • Right click with your mouse. Then click Save
As. Tell the computer where you want to save
the picture. In our class, we will use the
folder called, My Pictures. When you know
where you want to use the picture, go to
Insert, then Picture. Find the My Pictures
folder and add your picture to your work!

How do I give someone else credit for their
picture?
  • To show that you have borrowed a picture to use
in your work, you must give the owner of the
picture credit. To do that, you must cite your
    source.
  • All that means is you have to tell others at the
end of your work where you found your picture.
  • There is a special way to do that and it looks
    like this
