8But I didnt find it there
- Didnt find it?
- Try other local school-based catalogs
- www.crbsls.org
- Interlibrary Loan
- Area School Library Catalogs
9OK I still didnt find it.
- Perhaps this is a title that would be better
found in a college or public library catalog - www.crbsls.org
- Local Library Catalogs
- You can search by the individual site
10Why would I do that?
- Because perhaps
- Your client lives near that library
- Your client has a parent, friend etc. who can
pick up the book - You have a good working relationship with the ILL
clerk in that library and you know it will get
here quickly!
11If not?
- If you do not care where the books come from
you should use the CDLC catalog it includes all
local catalogs including ours! - www.cdlc.org

16Now what?
- Pay attention to
- The title and author be sure you are ordering
what your client wants. - Availability is the book in?
- The lending librarys call number very important
17Why do they need their own call number?
- They dont have to spend their time or their
staffs time looking up information you should
already have looked up!
18OK- Now I know what I want and where it will come
from whats next?
- Check the policies of the lending institution.
- Remember SUNY is the lender of last resort. Try
to find it elsewhere if possible
19How do I place the order?
- By Fax
- By Phone (least favorite option)
- Or by E-mail
- Keep careful records of what you ordered, when
and for whom.
20When the book comes in
- Contact your client
- Look your client in the eye and tell them We
ordered this book for you from XXX library. It
does not belong to us. If you lose it it will
cost 1000s to replace it.
21Why should I do all that?
- That personal connection and the look in the
eye greatly increases the likelihood if the book
being returned.
22When the book is due
- Clear up your own records for internal control.
- Note the date you returned the item.
- From a college or public library? - Label it
clearly with the CDLC code of the lending
library. - From another school? Label it clearly with the
name of the school. - Put it in the BOCES courier box.
23Someone just called me and wants one of our
library books. What do I do?
Yes!
Say YES! If you see no immediate need for the
title in your building for the next few weeks
send it! Thats the spirit!
24Find the book on your shelf and check it out!
- Check the book out on your own system automated
or cards to the borrowing institution. - Label it clearly
