The Shocker
  • Team 25
  • adrian bisek 301032297
  • amit prasad 301031556

2
Intended Purpose
  • To prevent users from disturbing others with
    their intrusive conversations.
  • This phone is used as learning tool for people so
that they can be trained not speak loudly.
  • This phone also can help to decrease the noise
pollution that we are dealing with today.

3
How it enhance activities, tasks or experiences?
  • Creates a calmer talking environment because
users will be more worried to talk loudly.
  • Less of a disturbance in public areas.
  • Less noise as individuals might not want to use
    phone as much.

4
How does it extend human cognition?
  • Makes users more aware of the comfort level of
    people around them.
  • Teaches users to be aware of their voice level.
  • Teaches users to keep emotions in check.
  • Instead of trying to talk over noise, we can
learn to listen to the quieter noise.
  • With calmer conversations on the phone, people
    could have less stress .

5
What is the lifetime of this product?
  • The electric shock would take a lot of battery
    power.
  • Lifetime depends on the users learning rate.
  • Usability as a phone could last over 5 years, but
again depends on how much it is being used as an
    electric shocker.

6
Does it look good?
  • Looks like a brick.
  • Not ergonomically designed.
  • Very big, so its difficult to carry.
  • Metal panels are a little big, which could lead
to a more accidental shock, possibly to head.
  • Very simple design.
  • Round button could be changed to a button pad.

7
Is it Safe?
  • It is not very safe to use if you are on the
    receiving end.
  • May shock easily if dropped.
  • Could give a static shock.
  • Possible burns from electric shock.
  • Hazardous near water.

8
Strengths of the prototype in comparisonto other
similar products
  • Learn to speak quieter.
  • Creates calmer talking experiences for less
    stress.
  • No relearning, it works like a normal phone.
  • Looks more like a phone compared to the other
    prototypes.
  • Made with cheaper material for better costs.

9
Weaknesses of the prototype in comparisonto
other similar products
  • Works everywhere, not only places of silence.
  • Danger for people with medical issues.
  • Big and bulky for a mobile phone of today.
  • Inflicts discomfort. (electric shocks)
  • Made with material that isnt very durable.

10
Moral Implications
Environmental How it effects the environment?
  • Non-recyclable cell phones causes landfill space
to shrink as well as contain toxic chemicals that
    are bad to our environment.
  • Better batteries would be required due to the
electric shocks that may use up more battery
power. More batteries used means more toxic
    waste.

11
Moral Implications
Social Who would buy this?
  • People who cant control the volume of their
    voice.
  • Parents could buy this for their children as a
    learning tool to speak quieter.
  • Used in areas that require low volume
    conversations.

12
Moral Implications
Economics Is it affordable?
  • Made out of plastic with a little metal.
  • Screen is LED, which is not expensive compared to
    todays LCD screens.
  • More material than needed. The phone is fairly
    large for its purpose.

13
Improvements
  • Make it smaller.
  • Better design.
  • Zaps the user, not the other person.
  • Shock a more specific area.
  • Rechargeable batteries with higher capacity.
  • Built with all recyclable material.
  • Have solar panels so it could charge in the sun.
  • A menu or contact list, address book is a must.
  • Change the button pad.
  • Could add a taser for security.

14
Evaluate the Success or Failures
  • There would have to be a market for this phone
which means including the shock feature as a
    standard feature.
  • This would allow people with no cell phone zones
to enforce their rules such as libraries or
    movies theaters.
  • This technology would only be activated in quiet
public places or high security areas.

15
Evaluate the Success or Failures
  • Observation of statistics such as
  • - Number of sales
  • - Profit and Price
  • - Demand
  • Survey customers and possible clients on things
like why they bought The Shocker, where they
heard of it, what they like about it and what
    could be improved.

16
Before and After
  • Before
  • After our recreation

17
In Conclusion
  • If there are no improvements done to this phone,
it would fail on the market.
  • If changes are made, there is a chance that this
idea of more security and controlling noise
    pollution could become popular.
