Background
  • February State provided school districts with
    the ability to use many state funded categorical
    funds in flexible ways
  • March CUSD Board passed a resolution
    identifying preliminary budget priorities for
    state funded categorical programs

  • June
  • District received notification from the State of
    California of additional pending cuts to revenue
    limit.
  • CUSD also received notification of 4.4 M in
    one-time Federal School Fiscal Stabilization
    Funds (SFSF). These funds can be used to retain
    specific programs and services, avoiding further
    cuts.
  • When July 1 CUSD budget was adopted, it was
    determined that 2.2 M of the SFSF dollars would
    be allocated in 2009-10 and 2.2 M in 2010-11.

Educational Services Recommendation
  • The Educational Services Department has been
    meeting during June and July to prioritize
    educational programs for the District for the
    next two years.
  • Additional recommendations will be forthcoming at
    a future Board meeting regarding Title I and
    Special Education Federal Stimulus Funds these
    dollars are not yet budgeted.
  • Educational Services recommends the use of SFSF
    dollars to fund the following programs

  • International Baccalaureate
  • Safe Schools
  • School Improvement Program
  • Secondary Specialized Programs
  • Pupil Retention Promotion Block Grant
  • Academy For Change
  • Cal Safe Program
  • PAR
  • By using these funds in this manner,
    approximately 40 FTE positions will be retained.
    These positions include both classified and
    certificated positions.
