Title: The Golden Apple

1
The Golden Apple
  • Priam had a son called Paris but a faithful
soothsayer foretold that Paris would cause Troy
to burn so Priam dumped his son outside Troy. A
Shepherd found him and brought him up as his
own. One day as Paris was with his flock three
beautiful goddesses came down with a golden apple
and told Paris to give it to the fairest of the
    three.

2
Minervas Offer
  • Minerva offered him wisdom and military glory

3
Junos Offer
  • Juno offered him true power

4
Venuss Offer
  • Venus offered him a women as fair and beautiful
    as herself.

5
Pariss decision
  • Paris thought hard.
  • He was young and foolish and he was already in
love with a nymph called Aenone, whos gift
could cure you even if you are an inch from
death. But he forgot about Aenone and gave the
    golden apple to Venus.

6
Minerva and Juno are very angry
  • Minerva and Juno were furious that Paris had
given the apple to Venus and not to one of them
and swore to seek vengeance on Paris.

7
Helen of the fair cheeks
  • Venus could only find one mortal as fair as
herself. Her name was Helen of the fair cheeks
and she was incredibly beautiful. The only
problem was Helen was married to Menalaeus, king
    of Sparta.

8
Love at first sight
  • Paris set off to Sparta to seek Helen of the
fair cheeks. When menalaeus saw Paris he welcomed
him in. When Paris saw Helen, Venus put a spell
on him so that Helen fell in love with him almost
    instantly.

9
Agamemnon
  • When menalaeus came back from hunting and found
Paris had taken his wife away he sent word to his
brother, Agamemnon, who set out to find warriors
    to help get Helen back.

10
Odysseus
  • Odysseus, king of Ithaca, heard that Agamemnon
was looking for warriors to get Helen back but
Odysseus didnt want to go to war. He had a wife
and son and no intention of leaving his small
island so he came up with an idea.

11
Madness of the Ithacan King
  • When Menalaeuss great, gold boat arrived at
Ithaca he and Philoctities(the greatest archer in
all the world) stepped out. They climbed the hill
and found an astonishing sight. Odysseus was
ploughing the field with a crown on his head and
a mad look in his eyes.

12
Philoctities Cunning Plan
  • Menalaeus turned to Philoctities and said come
on, I cant have men like that in my army
  • Philoctities looked at him and replied, He is
either very mad or very cunning, and as he said
it he ran into the palace of Odysseus and gabbed
Odysseus's son, Telemachus, and placed him in the
    path of the plough

13
Grim Defeat
  • The plough moved on towards the baby Telemachus.
Philoctities watched, eyes shining. If Odysseus
was really mad he would slice up his son. If he
was not mad he would stop the plough but
revealing himself in return. Odysseus saw
Telemachus just in time to stop the plough.

14
Good-bye
  • Odysseus said his goodbyes quickly, then
gathered his men and set off to the unknown land
of Troy. Penelope waved until the ship was just a
dot, heading towards the horizon of Neptune's
    wavy sea.
