Body Language
  • Appearance- clothes, hairstyle, makeup, jewelry,
    tattoos
  • Posture and Walk
  • Gestures (movements of your hands and arms that
    help make your point) and Touch

What message is the person sending who says
nothing yet wears the following?
  • Jeans, a flannel shirt, a metal hat and carrying
    a lunchbox?
  • Medals, stripes, a khaki uniform, is standing
    straight and tall?
  • Rubber-soled athletic shoes, white slacks, loose
    tops, and has a stethoscope?
  • Suit and tie, dress shoes, and carries a
    briefcase?

    decorate their surroundings with tell very
    different messages.
  • A desk that is filled with pictures of parents,
    siblings, spouse, children and pets portray what
    kind of message?
  • A desk that has 1 picture on it of a boat, and is
    loaded with stacks of papers portrays what
    message?

Nonverbal Paper Assignment
  • 1st Paragraph- Write what nonverbal Communication
    is- explain that there are norms that are never
    taught but everyone knows about them--- ex
    standing too close to a stranger/ over use of eye
    contact/ under use of eye contact/ standing very
    far away from a friend/talking too loud or too
    soft etc.
  • 2nd Paragraph- Pick a victim and write about the
    two things you will do to them. Also predict what
    you think they will do ex I will pick my best
    friend/ I will use too much eye contact and stand
    very far away from them/ I think they will ask me
    what my problem is.

  • 3rd Paragraph- Write what happened. Where you
    were/ what you did/ what they did etc.
  • 4th Paragraph- What did you learn about nonverbal
    communications and the unspoken norms we follow.
