- School Improvement Planning Framework Walkthrough
- Presentation
- October 2007
2Framework walkthrough
- Purpose of this pack
- To provide a brief overview of the modules that
make up the School Improvement Planning framework
and how they fit together - When would you use it?
- In events or one to one presentations to
participants that have an awareness of the
overall context and rationale of the framework - Are there any rules?
- Delegates should either already have an awareness
of the overall context and rationale for the
development of the School Improvement Planning
Framework - This can be achieved using the core slide pack
provided - This is an overview and should not be mistaken as
training - Presenters should review the shape and structure
of the toolkit materials before presenting in
order to respond credibly to questions
3The framework
The framework maps out the planning process in
eight modules, with each stage supported by
practical tools and exercises It is flexible
rather than prescriptive, and the tools can be
selected by the school to suit their need and
context
4Module 1) Prepare and engage
Understanding who to engage (within and beyond
the school) and how to engage them Developing a
shared vision of goals and what the team wants to
achieve through the planning process before
starting
5Module 2) Identify objectives
Developing balanced and evidence-based objectives
within and beyond the classroom covering three
key areas
Teaching and curriculum
Learning Potential
ECM outcomes
Understanding how, by contributing to what
happens outside the learning environment, the
performance of pupils can be influenced
Creating key objectives in the curriculum and
classroom moving beyond using data to generate
objectives
Examining the role of the school in influencing
ECM outcomes in a way that reflects the school
and community context and builds upon local
authority plans
6Module 2a) Identify objectives Teaching and
curriculum

classroom moving beyond using data to generate
objectives Gathering input from key stakeholders
to enrich the understanding of what supports
learning in the classroom
7Module 2b) Identify objectives Learning potential
Exploring the key characteristics of successful
learners Understanding how, by contributing to
what happens outside the learning environment,
the performance of pupils can be influenced
8Module 2c) Identify objectives ECM

deliver impact within and outside the
classroom Using different approaches to identify
appropriate solutions to meet the schools
objectives, particularly where this will involve
enlisting the support of external parties
10Module 4) Deliver
Supporting implementation of the plan by
assigning responsibilities, allocating resources,
agreeing deadlines and monitoring progress
11Module 5) Personalisation
Encouraging conversations that can lead to a
better understanding of the broader needs of
individual pupils, and identifying ways in which
these can be influenced by extended services
12Module 6) Demonstrate impact
Developing ways in which the information
generated can be used to demonstrate and monitor
the impact of extended services on children and
