  • The perspective from which the story is told
  • Position from which things are viewed

Characterization
  • The authors means of conveying to the reader a
    characters personality, life history, values,
    physical traits
  • How a characters thinks, feels, and acts
  • What a character says

Setting
  • The time and place where a story occurs

Foreshadowing
  • Where future events in a story, even sometimes
    the outcome, are suggested by the author before
    they happen

Imagery
  • Language that describes something in detail,
    using at least one of the five senses
  • 5 senses sight, sound, touch, taste, smell

Symbolism
  • The use of specific objects to represent abstract
    ideas
  • Symbol something tangible or visible (something
    you can hold in your hand or draw a picture of)
  • The idea it symbolizes must be something you
    cant hold in your hand or draw a picture of

  • A struggle between opposing forces which drives a
    story forward

  • Sequence of events in a story
  • How the story progresses from beginning to end
