SMURF - Sustainable Management of Urban Rivers
and Floodplains
Overall aim To demonstrate how the principles of
integrated river basin management can be applied
to highly modified and degraded catchments

The specific project aims

• Implement sustainable land-use planning and
  water management
• Involve local communities
• Develop transferable Sustainable Environmental
  Indicators
• Demonstrate how small scale changes can
  significantly improve a heavily modified
  river
• Improve amenity, ecology and sustainable
  drainage
