  • Microsoft Word is a word processor program that
    is used to create and edit text documents

Editing and Publishing Tools
  • In this unit you will be introduced to the
    following
  • Using the mouse
  • Cut, Copy and Paste
  • Spell Check
  • Inserting Graphics
  • Inserting a Table
  • Saving a file

Using the Mouse
  • The mouse is used to highlight text by inserting
    the cursor at the beginning of the desired text
    and dragging to the end point.
  • Highlighted material can then be cut, copied,
    pasted or deleted by right clicking the mouse.

Cut, Copy and Paste
  • The cut feature allows text to be removed from
    the document
  • The copy feature allows one to add text to the
    clipboard without removing it from the original
    location
  • The paste feature allows the copied material to
    be added

Spell Check
  • The Spell Check feature is a tool used for
    proofreading
  • The document will be checked for spelling,
    punctuation and grammar
  • The feature offers choices to correct errors
  • The Spell Check feature is accessed by selecting
    the tools drop-down menu or the Spell Check icon

Inserting Graphics
  • Pictures can be added to documents
  • Microsoft clipart offers a wide selection of
    pictures and graphics
  • Pictures can be added from files or from the web

Inserting a Table
  • A table can be created to organize information
    into an easy-to-read format
  • Text, numbers and graphics can be inserted in a
    table
  • A table is inserted by using the Insert drop-down
    menu on the toolbar

Saving a File
  • A file should be saved periodically to assure the
    document is not lost
  • To save the file, select the File drop-down menu,
    choose Save As and name the document
  • After using Save As, the file can then saved by
    selecting the Save Icon
  • For this unit we will save all documents to the
    desktop
