• JPEG (Left) retains colors better
• GIF (Middle Right) lost colors in pictures,
  support line drawing, simple cartoons.

File Format and Uses

• Bitmap (.bmp) Electronic presentations, e.g.,
  Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Word, commonly
  used for Windows
  
• TIFF (Tagged-Image File Format) Print documents,
  scanned images, when high quality and precision
  is required tiff files can be changed for either
  larger or smaller files without losing
  precision.
