U.S. Capital
  • Located on Capital Hill in Washington D.C.
  • U.S. Capital has been the home of the House of
    Representatives and the Senate since 1800.

The White House
  • Located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington
    D.C.
  • The official residence of all the presidents of
    the United States with the exception of George
    Washington.
  • The Oval office in the White House is where the
    President does the business of the country.

The Statue of Liberty
  • The Statue of Liberty symbolizes freedom
    throughout the world.
  • It was a gift from France.
  • Located in New York Harbor near Ellis Island.
  • The formal name for the Statue of Liberty is
    Liberty Enlightening the World.

  • The bald eagle was made the national bird of the
    United States in 1782.
  • The image of the bald eagle can be found on

The Liberty Bell
  • The Liberty Bell rang when the Continental
    Congress signed the Declaration of Independence
  • Has become the symbol of freedom in the United
    States.
  • In 1846 a thin crack began to affect the sound of
    the bell.
  • It is located in Philadelphia.

The Flag
  • The U.S. flag has undergone many changes since
    the first official flag of 1777.
  • White-Signifies purity and innocence
  • Red-signifies valor and bravery
  • Blue-signifies vigilance, perseverance, and
    justice
  • Stars were added as new states joined the Union

The Washington Monument
  • This four-sided stone structure honors the
    Father of our Country, George Washington.
  • The Washington Monuments towers over Washington
    D.C., and is one of the tallest masonry
    structures in the world.

Pledge of Allegiance
  • I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United
    States of America, and to the Republic for which
    it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible,
    with liberty and justice for all.
  • It was first used in public schools to celebrate
    Columbus Day on October 12, 1892.

National Anthem-
Star-Spangled Banner
  • Francis Scott Key wrote this during the War of
    1812 after seeing the enormous American flag
    flying proudly after a 25-hour British
    bombardment of Fort McHenry.
  • President Woodrow Wilson ordered that it be
    played at military and naval occasions.
  • In 1931, the Star-Spangled Banner became our
    national anthem.
