Aim of the Project
  • Carry out inter laboratory testing to establish
    the variability of the test results between
    laboratories
  • To develop some degree of confidence from the
    results that are obtained from various
    laboratories throughout the country
  • Attempt to obtain some degree of confidence in
    the bituminous product placed on the road

  • Penetration -7 12 from mean of 73
  • Ductility All results in excess 100 required
  • Elastic RecoveryAll greater than 50 Required,
    mean 60
  • ViscosityAll above min of 1,0 range 1,1 to 2,4
  • Stability Large variations 1 to 26 , should not
    exceed 2!!
  • Adhesion 5degRange 54 to 100 ,should be greater
    than 90!!
  • Adhesion50degRange 99 to 100 ,should be greater
    than 100

Conclusions contd
  • There are large variations in some of the
    test results even with the routine tests like
    PENETRATION and SOFTENING POINT
  • Some of the test results show large
    variations but the product is within the
    specification
  • A proficiency testing program is required to
    improve the level and confidence of testing
