SUGAR ACT OF 1764

• First law passed from Parliament to get money
  from the colonies to give to the Crown.
• This act raised duties on non-British goods
  shipped to the colonies.

CURRENCY ACT OF 1765

• This act would not allow American colonies to
  issue their own currency.
• This angered many American colonists.

QUARTERING ACTOF 1765

• This act required colonists to provide housing
  for British troops.
• This act also required colonists to provide
  supplies for the British troops.
• In 1774, this act was broadened so that British
  troops could occupy any dwelling in the American
  colonies.

STAMP ACT OF 1765

• This was the first direct tax on the American
  colonies to raise money for the Crown. It taxed
• Newspapers Almanacs
• Pamphlets Broadsides
• Dice Playing Cards
• Legal Documents

TOWNSHEND ACTSOF 1766

• This act helped Parliament pay the expenses
  involved in governing the American colonies.
• It taxed
• Glass Lead
• Paint Paper
• Tea

TEA ACTOF 1773

• This act reduced the tax on imported British tea.
• This gave British merchants an unfair advantage
  in selling their tea in the American colonies.

INTOLERABLE ACTSOF 1774

• These acts were intended to punish Massachusetts
  after the Boston Tea Party.
• These were enacted to essentially eliminate the
  power of the Massachusetts government.
