home. You are Jewish, it is the middle of World
War II and things are tense. You immediately
decide its time to go into hiding. Not wasting
any time, you start planning your escape.
5Will you make it safely?
6The Task
- In your group, you will produce a journal
complete with information about World War II,
Anne Frank, and a few other things youll need to
know before you go into hiding.

may choose from - Writer

8Writer
- Do you love grammar? You will be responsible for
writing about Anne Frank, because she knows about
being in hiding! Shes also a great writer. Are
you up to the challenge?

- You must have a knack for the past! The
Historian is responsible for all research
relating to World War II. You must produce a
timeline of major events.
10Architect
- You must like drawing and designing. You are
responsible for designing the annex where your
family will stay. Think about how to keep your
loved ones safe, and what you will need to bring
with you.
11Friend of the Family
- Anne Franks family wouldnt have survived
without the help of Miep Gies, a trusted friend
who delivered supplies and news to the families
in hiding up until the time that they were
discovered. Your job is to research the Food
Guide Pyramid in order to find out which healthy
foods to deliver to the families.
12German Officer
- As an officer, you are in charge of keeping
everyone on task and focused. In addition, you
are curious about other governments, particularly
the US. You must learn more about the United
States government and report back to your
superiors.
13Task One Writer
- With the other members in your group, go through
Anne Franks scrapbook. While you are reading,
record 10 new pieces of information on a sheet of
blank paper. Then use those 10 items to write an
essay about Anne Frank.

about Anne Franks life, World War II, and
internationally. You need a total of 30 dates.

family and others hid during the Holocaust.
Construct a replica of the Secret Annex, or
create your own, including a list of every supply
that you would like to take with you.
16Task Four Friend of the Family
- 'In the twenty one months that we've spent here
we have been through a good many 'food
cycles'...periods in which one has nothing else
to eat but one particular dish or kind of
vegetable. We had nothing but endive for a long
time, day in, day out, endive with sand, endive
without sand, stew with endive, boiled or 'en
casserole' then it was spinach, and after that
followed kohlrabi, salsify, cucumbers, tomatoes,
sauerkraut, etc., each according to the season.'
-Anne Frank (April 3, 1944).
17Task Four continued..
- Track your food intake over the next three days.
List the types of foods and beverages and
estimate the amounts eaten each day for meals and
snacks. Look at the food guide pyramid and
compare what you should be eating, and what you
actually eat. Make a chart/graph, or represent
it some other way that makes sense to you.
18Task Five German Officer
- You must learn about the Bill of Rights of the
United States Constitution. Play this game and
have the Writer record your answers as you play.

being, you are safely in hiding. Good luck, and
stay safe.
23- "I see the world being slowly transformed into a
wilderness, I hear the approaching thunder that,
one day, will destroy us too, I feel the
suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at
the sky, I somehow feel that everything will
change for the better, that this cruelty too
shall end, that peace and tranquility will return
once more. In the meantime, I must hold on to my
ideals. Perhaps the day will come when I'll be
able to realize them!'' - -- Anne Frank,July 15, 1944, age 15
