CHILDHOOD (1820-1835)
  • Age 5 hired out as a house servant
  • Age 7 ran away from home, returned (no food and
    loneliness)
  • Age 15 Harriet tried to help a runaway slave
  • She went into a coma. She had blackouts the rest
    of her life.

CHILDHOOD TREATMENT
  • Whipping as a part of her morning routine
  • Harriet put on thick
  • clothes to protect her
  • skin. She made a loud
  • cry as each blow would
  • strike her.

THE GREAT ESCAPE
  • 1849 Harriet escaped in fear of being sold.

MOSES OF HER PEOPLE

    Underground Railroad, leading more than 300
    slaves to freedom.
