3What is CPS?
- The Classroom Performance System is a package of
hardware and software developed by eInstruction
Corporation. The hardware consists of a infra red
receiver unit and response pads. The software and
hardware work together so that you can create and
deliver course-relevant questions and standards.
Then, the software reports student performance
results.
4Creating a Database
- Before you begin you must create a database to
store the following data - Classes that contain students
- Lessons that have questions
- Reports that are associated with lessons
5Creating a Database
- Procedure
- Open CPS from your desktop icon.
- Click File from the menu bar.
- Choose New Database.... A New CPS Database window
appears. - Type the database name that you are creating in
the File Name text box. The file extension .cps
is automatically added to your file name. - Click save and wait while CPS processes your
request. The Lessons tab opens with your database
name in the title bar and left window of that
tab.
6Now that you have an open database
- Create a class
- Add students
- Assign pad id
7Create a Class
- 1. Choose the Class tab
- 2. Choose new class
8Create a Class
- 3. Choose your choose K-12 as your institution
type and click next - 4. Enter your Contact Information if this is your
first CPS class -
- 5. Enter your Class Information. Please note that
Class Name is the only information required - 6. Click next, next, done
9Add Students to a K-12 Class
- 1. Click student
- 2. Fill in the first and last name for each
student
10Inserting test answer
- There are a variety of testing formats to choose
from. - Today we will look at the student managed
assessment. - In this case you create a paper multiple choice
test. - Distribute the test and clicker pads
- Have the students work at their own pace and
enter the answers with their clicker pad

- Click the lesson tab
- Click tools new lesson
- Give it an appropriate name (preCalMidterm) hit

13Adding Questions To A Lesson
- Select the lesson
- Click tools new question
14Select the correct answer, save, and move to the
next question.
15Best Practice
- Create the paper test and assign each question to
a state standard before you create a lesson in
cps. - This will allow you to assign standards to
questions at this point.

- Open a question from the Lessons tab. The CPS
Question Author window appears.
22Click the Question menu item and choose Associate
Standards.
