3The core functions of the ministry
- To promote health and social protection for
everyone by - implementing the government program and the
ministrys strategic plans - law-drafting (national and EU)
- managing the state budget and the accountable
civil service departments
4The mission of the information services
- To ensure high level information services for the
core functions and the staff of the ministry by - producing expert services for information
planning and management - especially in the area of document management,
net services and library and information
retrieval services
5The strategic background of the electronic desktop
- At the turn of the millennium the ministry
completed its strategy on how to undertake steps
towards an e-government - The main areas of development in the near future
were going to be - to plan and build a workflow and document
management system for the ministry, the so called
Doktori system - to reform the internet and intranet services and
to plan the extranet services ( desktops for
projects and working groups)
6The vision of the new intranet
- In 2005 the electronic desktop
- aggregates the information and the tools on
- a personified frontpage
- to help the staff to do their jobs
- and co-operate
- In the vision we integrate the document
management and the intranet
7The first step and how we did it
- By the help of several consultants and
enthusiastic personnel we completed the first
version of our e-desktop in one and a half years,
starting the planning in autumn 2002 and
publishing the new intranet in spring 2004 - The most important areas where outside help was
necessary were (besides the execution of the
service) - the methods for definition of needs and
- usability matters
8What makes the intranet a desktop
- the integration of the e-mail system and Doktori
system - the possibility of personalizing some parts of
the content of the frontpage - own short-cuts in the content of service
- own tools
- own external links (from the ministrys
e-library) - the jobrole pages which support carrying out the
core functions of the ministry
