3The Mission
- To increase the number of culturally responsible
Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed
professionally and positively impact the
community. - What does this mean?
To succeed professionally refers not only to
getting a well paying job, but becoming an
influence within the company. Reshape the way
the world does things by being an added value to
the company or by evening starting your own. We
do not have to accept the world as it is because
we are the ones who mold it.
Being culturally responsible means to be aware of
your culture and preserve it by behaving
responsibly and representing yourself in a
respectable manner. Whether you are American,
African or Caribbean, the world is watching you
represent not only this organization but the
Black community as a whole.
Positively impacting your community means to be
involved in its success. Work with your chapter
to develop programs that will assist all the
people in your community, such as computer
training, cleaning up parks, etc.
To excel academically means to make academics
your priority. Getting the best grades possible
and learning as much as possible. Helping others
to do the same with tutoring and study groups
will not only help them but also keep you
refreshed on the information.
To increase the number refers to the retention
and graduation rates of Black students in STEM
field majors. The more students that join NSBE
means that more students should maintain their
major in a STEM and graduation rates will
increase.
4The Mission
- Following the Mission of the Society also
increasing your chapters NSBE brand power,
increases members potential for leadership within
your chapter, and increases the number of
culturally responsible black engineers who excel
academically succeed professionally and
positively impact the community.
