True Love at the Hyatt

• Away from home with no one to ask questions
• Many married couple met at business affairs
• Some people go looking for love
• You dont want to return to work with some
  explanations to make

Dating and Business

• Many companies discourage intraoffice dating
• Main reason for this is because firms fear of
  sexual harassment.

Things that are illegal

• Quid pro quos
• Ex. Come out with me on Friday, and Ill put in
  a good word for your promotion
• Creating hostile work environment
• Ex. girly posters or Ow! I just go crazy when
  you wear that red dress.
• This is the reason most US managers avoid
  comments complimentary or not- on appearances

How much is to much?

• Simply getting a No when you ask someone out,
  is usually a good hint that they are not
  interested.
• Repeatedly asking can be considered harassment
• If that person claims to have prior commitments,
  it is ok to ask 2 or 3 times, after that it could
  be considered badgering.

What should we do if it is LOVE?

• Learn if your company has policies about office
  romances.
• Never pursue a relationship with a supervisor

• If you work in the same area, speak to your
  supervisor and ask for reassignment, if possible
• Always know your firms policies about employee
  dating

Ceremonies

• Things you should not attend
• Weddings
• Births
• Baptisms
• Graduations
• Funerals of family members

• Things you could be ASKED to attend
• Baby showers, given by office personal
• Wedding shower
• If a co-worker killed on the job, the whole
  office may close and attend funeral.

Other Peoples Business

• Dont want to mix business and personal business
• Best to direct other peoples personal problems
  to and Employee Assistance Program

Employees Serious Illness

• You may be given some information, but you
  shouldnt ask to many questions.
• If you have been told someone has been
  hospitalized, leave it up to that person to tell
  you what for
• If you have been sick
• When asked, keep it generalized
• If its more than a few days, your boss may need
  some reasonable information.
