Sexual Competition

• Males see themselves as in competition with each
  other and rivals in attracting the female of
  their choice.
• Females, usually more passive than males, compete
  for attention as well as to excite and charm the
  males.

Darwin Viewpoint

• Female are more choosy with their mates. Males
  have millions of sperm, but women only have a
  limited number of eggs.
• Darwin saw that competition for mates was
  important to reproductive success, this is known
  as Sexual Selection.
• Traits that provide males with more mating
  advantages will evolve because those are the
  males that will produce more offspring than their
  competitors

• Females are choosy because they wish to gain the
  most possible amount of benefits from their mates

• large eyes with a larger space between them
• prominent cheek bones
• small narrow chin
• youthful skin

• When shown drawings of female body types, men
  from various cultures preferred women with an
  hourglass shape
• Specifically, men preferred women with a waist 7
  as wide as her hips, regardless of her total body
  mass
• Hourglass shape associated with high estrogen
  levels, which influence fertility
