1(No Transcript)
2Fishers of Men
3Faiths Obstacles
- RECENT FAILURE Even after trying their best,
they had failed to catch anything. - PHYSICAL WEARINESS They had gone without sleep,
having toiled all night long. - UNLIKELIHOOD OF SUCCESS If they hadnt caught
any during the night (the ideal time), how would
they catch any in the day? - DIFFICULTY OF THE DEMAND They must launch out
into the DEEP WATER!
4Faiths Triumph
- Even though we have already tried and failed
- Even though the ideal time for success is
well-past - Even though we are extremely tired and the
difficulty is great - Because it is the Lord who has commanded, we will
ignore all of our human reasonings and our
physical and emotional desires, put our trust in
Him, and obey Him.
5The Results of Obedience
v. 6 Blessings beyond what we are able to
imagine. Eph. 320 v. 9 Humility and reverence
for the providence and power of God (we will fall
to our knees). v. 11 A subsequent call to greater
responsibility and sacrifice.

- PRAY (54) The Lord directs us - He provides
the opportunities and He gives the increase. - Lord, show me how, when, and where to cast the
net. Help me to be a fisher of souls.

talk for years before some people respond to the
gospel.

11Concluding Remarks
In the opening verses (1-3), Jesus is teaching
Gods Word, but Peter and the others are working
at their fishing business. They had all been
following and listening to Jesus, but they were
not yet completely committed to His mission. By
verse 11, they had left their business to follow
Jesus in catching men, not fish.
12Concluding Remarks
Whatever we do to make a living, our main
purpose as Christians is to glorify God. Our
God-ordained mission in life is to reach out with
the gospel to the lost through our behavior, our
attitudes, and our words. We must learn to view
people as Jesus did, and to view ourselves as His
representatives in our sphere of influence. The
people we have contact with are our mission field.
13Concluding Remarks
At the end of our days our lives will be
measured by whether or not we have faithfully
used what God has entrusted to us to further His
kingdom. Whether directly through our verbal
teaching, or indirectly through our example,
giving, good works, or service, there will be
people in heaven because we did not live for
ourselves, but for Jesus Christ and His kingdom.

15Luke 51-3 (NKJV)
(1) So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him
to hear the word of God, that He stood by the
Lake of Gennesaret, (2) and saw two boats
standing by the lake but the fishermen had gone
from them and were washing their nets. (3) Then
He got into one of the boats, which was Simons,
and asked him to put out a little from the land.
And He sat down and taught the multitudes from
the boat.
16Luke 54-6 (NKJV)
(4) When He had stopped speaking, He said to
Simon, Launch out into the deep and let down
your nets for a catch. (5) But Simon answered
and said to Him, Master, we have toiled all
night and caught nothing nevertheless at Your
word I will let down the net. (6) And when they
had done this, they caught a great number of
fish, and their net was breaking.
17Luke 57-9 (NKJV)
(7) So they signaled to their partners in the
other boat to come and help them. And they came
and filled both the boats, so that they began to
sink. (8) When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down
at Jesus knees, saying, Depart from me, for I
am a sinful man, O Lord! (9) For he and all who
were with him were astonished at the catch of
fish which they had taken
18Luke 510-11 (NKJV)
(10) and so also were James and John, the sons of
Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus
said to Simon, Do not be afraid. From now on you
will catch men. (11) So when they had brought
their boats to land, they forsook all and
followed Him.
