3Structure Design
The ECAL structure design was based on the FEM
model and strength analysis. (Modes, Stresses,
Bolts force, Fail safe) The ECAL Prototype was
verified by the SQ test in Beijing in Jan.

4Weight Saving for Flight ECAL

In order to reduce mass of flight ECAL, several
Weight Saving options were proposed and analyzed
based on the correlated FEM model. For the
Flight ECAL, Weight Saving measures was taken on
the Side Panels, (6.5kg can be saved).

Go-NoGo Gauges are used to ensure the dimensional
precision of each PMT hole

ECAL Flight Structure is weighted 66.8kg now,
6.8kg saved (relative to the Prototype ECAL
73.6kg)
9ECAL Grounding/Bonding
Alodine will be used on the mating surfaces
so that structure components
are electrical conductive each other. Total 8
straps connecting to 4 Brackets are used for the
ECAL ground/bonding
(2 for top
Multilayer Insulation, 2 for bottom MLI, 2 for
Instruments, 2 finally to USS-02)
10Surface Treatment
Anodization has been finished (for erosion
protection) . Alodine will be done soon (for
erosion protection and electrical conductive ).
11Interface with Thermal Control
Thermal cover (MLI or White painting) should be
used for ECAL Brackets CGS has confirmed today
that MLI will be used.
12Next Works for ECAL Structure
- 1 Flight ECAL Assembly in Beijing on October,
2004 - Final sine-sweep test in Beijing on November,
2004. - Delivery flight ECAL to LAPP before December 1,
2004.
