stated plus D.C. with being infected with the
    disease.
  • Can be found in the throats of women and men who
have oral sex with an infected partner
  • Also known as clap drip or dose

    of the penis
  • Pain and swelling in the testicles are uncommon

4
Treatment and Transmitted

antibiotics and symptoms alleviated within 7 to
    10 days
  • During vaginal, anal or oral sex

5
Effects
  • In women if untreated the infection can spread
into the uterus or fallopian tubes.
  • Happens in up to 40 of women with untreated
    Chlamydia
  • Women are five times more likely to become
    infected with HIV, if exposed

6
Gonorrhea
  • Bacterium that can grow and multiply easily in
the warm, moist areas of the reproductive tract,
including the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and
in the urine canal in women and men
  • It also can grow in the mouth, throat, eyes and
    anus

symptoms that appear two to five days after
infection. Symptoms can take up to 30 days to
    appear
  • Men
  • Burning sensation when urinating
  • White, yellow, or green discharge from the penis
  • Get painful or swollen testicles

8
Symptoms
  • Women symptoms are often mild but most women who
    are infected have no symptoms
  • If they do show some symptoms sometimes they are
mistaken for bladder or vaginal infections.
  • Initial signs and symptoms are
  • Painful or burning sensation when urinating
  • Increase vaginal discharge
  • Bleeding between periods

9
Treatment
  • Several antibiotics can successfully cure this
    infection

10
Hepatitis B
  • Is a virus that infects the liver. Most adults
who get Hepatitis B have it for a short time and
    then get better.
  • You can have Hepatitis B and not know it. You may
    not have symptoms.

11
Causes
  • It is spread through contact with blood or body
    fluids of an infected person.
  • Share needles with an infected person
  • Get a tattoo or piercing with tools that were not
    cleaned well
  • Share personal items like razors or toothbrushes
  • Have sex with infected person

12
Symptoms
  • Feeling very tired
  • Mild fever
  • Headache
  • Not wanting to eat
  • Feeling sick to your stomach or vomiting
  • Belly pain
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Skin rash
  • Yellowish eyes and skin. Jaundice usually appears
only after other symptoms have started to go away

13
Treatment
  • Its goes away on its own.
  • You can relieve your symptoms at home by resting,
eating healthy foods, drinking plenty of water,
    and avoiding alcohol and drugs.

  • Causes clumps of painful blisters to appear on
    the skin.
  • Blisters last for as short a time as a few days
or for long as several months.

15
Symptoms
  • Itching or pain
  • Red bumps that soon turn into watery blisters
  • They can for 2 to 20 days

16
Treatment
  • No cure.
  • Prescription medication may lesson severity and
    frequency of out breaks

17
HPV
  • Over 50 related viruses whose effects include
genital warts and cervical cancer. Members of
this virus family also cause skin warts, commonly
    found on the hands.

18
Symptoms
  • Wartlike growth on or near penis, anus, cervix or
    vagina
  • In women creates cancerous or precancerous
cervical cells that register positive on Pap
    tests.

19
Treatment
  • No cure
  • Controlled by removal of growths or abnormal
    cervical cells

20
Syphilis
  • Is a bacterial STD that, if untreated, advances
from a sore to flu like symptoms, then through a
long symptomless period, and later to a final
stage of irreversible brain and nerve damage,
    ending in death
  • the disease can be passed to another person
through prolonged kissing or close bodily contact
    with an infected person
  • Syphilis cannot be spread by toilet seats, door
knobs, swimming pools, hot tubs, bath tubs,
    shared clothing, or eating utensils

21
Symptoms
  • Chancre sores on penis, vagina, rectum, anus and
    cervix.(3 weeks after exposure)
  • Rash on feet and hands, appetite loss, fever,
sore throat, nausea, and headache( 6 weeks after
    exposure)
  • Severe nerve damage( 10 to 20 years later)

22
Treatment
  • Syphilis is easy to cure in its early stages. A
single intramuscular injection of penicillin, an
antibiotic, will cure a person who has had
syphilis for less than a year. Additional doses
are needed to treat someone who has had syphilis
for longer than a year. For people who are
allergic to penicillin, other antibiotics are
available to treat syphilis. There are no home
remedies or over-the-counter drugs that will cure
syphilis. Treatment will kill the syphilis
bacterium and prevent further damage, but it will
    not repair damage already done.

23
Effects
  • Brain damage
  • Heart disease
  • Spinal cord damage
  • Blindness
  • Infection of the fetus
  • Causing death or severe retardation

24
Prevention
  • Abstinence from sexual intercourse
  • Mutual monogamy with uninfected parnter
  • Some protection

25
Pubic Lice
  • An STD caused by tiny parasites that breed in
pubic hair and cause intense itching
  • Also known as crabs

26
Symptoms
  • A person may not experience any symptoms for 2 to
4 weeks until the eggs hatch.
  • Itching
  • Lice in pubic hair
  • Eggs- that are visible clinging to hair strands

27
Treatment and Transmitted
  • Prescription or over the counter shampoo
  • Lotion or creams
  • infested clothing
  • Towels
  • Bedding
  • From someone in your house

28
Effects and Prevention
  • Skin irritation
  • Not sharing towels or bedclothes with other
    people
  • Good personal hygiene

29
Yeast Infection
  • Also known as candidiasis
  • A naturally occurring fungus that flourishes in
the moist areas of your body your digestive
tract, the folds of your skin, and, in women, the
vagina. Normally your body produces enough
so-called friendly bacteria to keep yeast in
check. But sometimes this balance gets out of
whack and the yeast takes over, resulting in an
infection. When this happens in the vagina, it's
    called a vaginal yeast infection

30
Symptoms
  • Burning and itching in the vaginal area
  • Thick white discharge that looks like cottage
    cheese
  • Redness and swelling of your vulva
  • Pain or soreness during intercourse
  • Frequent urination, along with a burning
    sensation while urinating

31
Treatment
  • May be treated with medications that are applied
topically in and around the vagina or with
    medications taken by mouth.

32
Trichomonasis
  • Is a sexually transmitted disease. It is caused
by a parasite that can be passed from one person
to another. The parasite is sexually transmitted
    through penis-to-vagina intercourse or
vulva-to-vulva contact with an infected partner.
  • The vulva is the genital area outside the vagina.
Women can get the disease from infected men or
    women.

33
Symptoms
  • Many women do not have any symptoms, but still
have the STD. If women do have symptoms, they
usually appear 5 to 28 days after exposure and
    can include
  • yellow, green, or gray vaginal discharge (often
    foamy) with a strong odor
  • discomfort during sex and when urinating
  • irritation and itching in the genital area
  • lower abdominal pain in rare cases

34
Treatment
  • Trichomoniasis can usually be cured with the
    prescription drug
  • Topical medicines, or medicines applied to the
    skin
  • The topical medicines are less effective and may
not cure you. They might, however, ease the
    symptoms.

35
Effects
  • Bladder and urethra infections
  • Increased of PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease)
  • Premature births in women that are pregnant
