- History of TAPPI Education --
- Since 1915 -- TAPPI Members Have Gathered to
Share Knowledge of Papermaking, Learn From Each
Other - In Mid 1990s -- Approximately 3000 Technical
Workers Attended About 40 TAPPI Short Courses - TAPPI Curriculum Now Available Face-to-face, on

rs From Industry
5Gross TAPPI Education A Path Forward
- Training Continuing Education Research Says --
- There is a lack of knowledge experience needed
to operate/troubleshoot increasingly
sophisticated processes - Labor market is tight for trainable/qualified
personnel - Significant portion of existing workforce will
retire by 2010 - The workforce is smaller less time available
for CE (and less ) - Its every man for himself
6Gross TAPPI Education A Path Forward
- Issues to Address --
- What curriculum must we pursue in order to get
our workers to higher knowledge -- skill levels? - How do we ensure we are receiving quality
education/training from the many CE providers? - Do we know how to measure a higher knowledge --
skill level of industry workers? - What content delivery mechanisms are most
appropriate?
7Gross TAPPI Education A Path Forward
- TAPPI Believes That --
- The Knowledge/Skill Level of Our Workers Can and
Must be Increased - There Must be a Curriculum Road Map Driven by
Higher Knowledge/Skill Levels - There Must be Objectively Measurable Criteria
With Which to Ensure the Quality of Training and
Educational Offerings - Through Partnerships, Educational Offerings Can
be Developed Delivered to Our Industry in a
Manner That Shares The Risks, Costs, and Benefits
