Mythical Monsters

• The tales of ancient Greece are called myths.
  Monsters are common characters in Greek myths.
  Many monsters in greek myths are part animal and
  part human. The Harpy, for example, is a
  creature that has a birds body and a womans
  head. A Harpys body looks like a vulture.
  Harpies smell disgusting. They fly down to
  snatch food from peoples plates and mouths.
  Another monster of Greek myth is the Gorgon, A
  gorgon has a womans face and a birds wings and
  claws. A Gorgons hair is made of twisting,
  snapping snakes. The most frightening part of a
  Gorgon, however, is its

• eyes.Staring into a Gorgons eyes turns a person
  into stone! Another monster found in Greek myths
  is half man and half horse. This creature is
  called a Centaur. Most Centaurs are wild and
  warlike. There are other monsters in Greek
  myths. The Hydra is a snake like creature that
  lives in water. The Hydra has nine heads. If
  one of the Hydras heads is cut off, two more
  will grow in its place. The Chimera (Ky-meer-uh)
  is an especially horrid beast. It has a lions
  head, a goats body, and a snakes tail. The
  Chimera also breathes fire.
