Where do orangutans live?

• Most orangutans live in the tropical forests on
  the islands of Borneo and Sumatra in southeastern
  Asia. Most orangutans prefer to live alone,
  rather than in groups. Actually, they are the
  only great ape that comes from Asia.

What do orangutans look like?

• Orangutans have a bulky body. They have a thick
  neck, very
• long and strong arms, short legs, and NO tail.
  They are
• about 2/3 the size of a gorilla. They are mostly
  covered
• with reddish-brown hair. A female orangutan is
  about 2.6
• to 3.5 feet high and weigh about 110 pounds (50
  kg.). A
• male is about 3.2 to 4.5 feet tall and weigh
  about 200
• pounds (90 kg.).

What types of foods do orangutans eat?

• Orangutans are omnivores, but mostly are
  herbivores. Their favorite food is fruit. They
  also eat seeds, leaves, plant bulbs, tree bark,
  tender plant shoots, and flowers. They also eat
  insects and small mammals or birds.

How long can orangutans live?

• Orangutans can normally live up to 35
• to 40 years in the wild, but in captivity,
• they can live up to 50 years. But the
• number of years that these animals
• are living is slowly dropping. Since
• orangutans are highly endangered,
• most orangutans dont get to live as
• long as 35 or 40 years.
