N Narrow the Search

• Narrow the search by using specific words
• Instead of Atlantis 14,300,000 hits
• Use Atlantis Continent-shuttle-movie-film 36,000
  hits (Using the sign deletes words from your
  search!)
• If you are trying to find Waterbury Vermont
• Just type Waterbury 1,370,000 hits
• Type in Waterbury Vermont VT 58,500 hits
• BE SPECIFIC

E Exact Phrases

• When using exact phrase use quotes
• Instead of typing in San Diego State University,
  which brings up every page with San, every page
  with Diego, every page with State, and every page
  with University 6,150,000 hits
• Use San Diego State University only brings up
  the pages with that exact phrase 356,000 hits

T Trim the URL

• Trimming the URL can help you find the source for
  the information.
• Take this example http//oncampus.richmond.edu/aca
  demics/as/education/projects/webquests/shakespeare
  /
• Trim back the URL a few times http//oncampus.rich
  mond.edu/academics/as/education/projects/
• And again http//oncampus.richmond.edu/

S Similar Pages

• You can put in a URL in an advance search in
  Google and it will give you similar pages to the
  ones you have tried.
• You can also put in linked pages to a URL and it
  will list all the pages that are linked to that
  site.

• There are search engines designed to look for
  specific things.
• Encyclopedias, magazines, maps, biographies,
  sounds, and much more.
• My favorite search engine is Google.

Try It!

• Try going to Google
• Look for Arlington Public Schools
• Narrow the search- Be Specific
• Trim the URL-if necessary
• Try an exact phrase using quotes
• Find the Arlingtons Schools website
• Add it to your favorites menu.
• (Deleting a favorite)
