2Learning Your Adwords Vocabulary
- Before we can delve into understanding adwords
traffic estimator, let us first have a quick
vocabulary session. - Clicks pertains to the estimated number of
people who have clicked (or who will click) on
your Google ad. - Impressions pertains to the number of estimated
people to which your ad was shown to (or will be
shown to). - CPC or cost per click is the amount or cost of
each user click of your Google ad. It is also
referred to as Pay per Click or CPC.
3Rev Up Your Traffic Estimating Skills
You can only access the Adwords Traffic Estimator
when you are logged on to your Google Adwords
Account. Click on the Traffic Estimator under
the Tools and Analysis Drop down column.
4Start by changing the location of your search to
your targeted market. In our example, we are
targeting Australia. Then enter your desired
keywords or if you have plenty of keywords, you
can upload a CSV file only. Once done adding or
uploading keywords, click get estimates.
5After that, you will be given a new page with a
graph. This graph, by default shows you the cost
of traffic estimates per click. If you want to
see the traffic estimates per impressions or
cost, just click on the button on the right hand
side of the graph.
6Basically, the graph will give you an idea how
much it would cost (for the particular keyword
group you have entered) to get a certain amount
of impression or click. Or, you could likewise
see how much impression or clicks would give you
with a specific CPC.
7You can hover your mouse on the green line of the
graph to give you point by point detail as you
increase or decrease a factor like cost,
impressions or clicks. If you look at the
screenshot below, when I hovered my mouse at the
Max CPC A7.03, I got the following values
clicks 56.97, Impressions 1,525 and cost
A192.50. This means that an estimated 56 people
have clicked on my ad and have visited my site. A
1,525 impressions would mean that my ad was
seen by that number of users.
8While the Max CPC means that this is the highest
cost that I will pay for each ad clicked by an
internet user. This also means that some CPC is
lower than AUD7.03. That is why the total cost of
my advertisement for the day is AUD192.50 which
is not equal to 7.03 x 56.97 clicks
(A400.50). If you already know the budget you
can allot for your adwords, you can easily get a
more detailed scenario. Do this by filling up
your Max CPC budget and your daily budget on the
box provided under the graph. As an example, my
daily budget is AUD 20.00 and the Max CPC is AUD
10.00 and then click see estimates.
9Each of the keyword you included in the adwords
traffic estimator is given detailed information
like number of clicks, impressions, average
position, click through rates and average pay per
click on a per day basis. With this tool you can
easily assess if you have the right combination
of keywords that would give you more traffic for
money or simply to achieve your SEO goals.
