Purpose of Church Discipline
Mat. 1815 "If your brother sins, go and show him
his fault in private if he listens to you, you
have won your brother. 16 "But if he does not
listen to you, take one or two more with you, so
that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY
FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED. 17 "If he refuses to
listen to them, tell it to the church and if he
refuses to listen even to the church, let him be
to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

Purpose of Church Discipline
Titus 310 Reject a factious man after a first
and second warning, 11 knowing that such a man is
perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned.

Tax Collectors
Mat.1817 "If he refuses to listen to them,
tell it to the church and if he refuses to
listen even to the church, let him be to you as a
Gentile and a tax collector. Acts 111 Now the
apostles and the brethren who were throughout
Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received
the word of God. 2 And when Peter came up to
Jerusalem, those who were circumcised took issue
with him, 3 saying, "You went to uncircumcised
men and ate with them."

send you far away to the Gentiles.'" 22 They
listened to him up to this statement, and then
they raised their voices and said, "Away with
such a fellow from the earth, for he should not
be allowed to live!"

associate with any so-called brother if he is an
immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a
reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler -- not even
to eat with such a one. 2 Thess. 36 Now we

Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every
brother who leads an unruly life and not
according to the tradition which you received
from us.

2 Thessalonians 314 If anyone does not obey our
instruction in this letter, take special note of
that person and do not associate with him, so
that he will be put to shame. 15 Yet do not
regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a
brother.

• Jews didnt eat with tax-collectors or
  Gentiles no association.
• Christians are to treat a brother who does not
  repent like the Jews treated Tax-collectors
  Gentiles.
• If we didnt have another passage in the NT,
  this would tell us basically, how to treat an
  unrepentant brother.

Can you withdraw from some brother who has
already withdrawn from the church?

1. Jesus is God
2. Mary is the Mother of Jesus
3. Mary is the mother of God
4. Jesus is God before Mary was born.

Peter told elders to shepherd the flock of God
which is among you (1 Pet. 52). It amazes me
that some brethren can understand how elders
can only have oversight of those who are among
them, yet the same brethren try to withdraw
fellowship from those who are not among them.
Congregations are commanded to withdraw from
disorderly brethren who are among them, i.e.,
in their midst. I know of no passage which
speaks of a congregation withdrawing from one
who was not in their midst.

Same Words, Two Different Ideas

• Im withdrawing my fellowship from this church
• They mean they will not be worshipping (Sun.
  Wed.) with this church.
• Does not mean they will not eat with anyone from
  this church.

Purpose of Church Discipline
1 Corinthians 54 In the name of our Lord Jesus,
when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit,
with the power of our Lord Jesus, 5 I have
decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the
destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may
be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Is this man already in Satans camp? Can he still
be present in the assembly? When are they not
to associate with him? They are to withdraw
their social association/fellowship.

hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray,
does he not leave the ninety-nine on the
mountains and go and search for the one that is
straying? 13 "If it turns out that he finds it,
truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than
