Title: Lifetime Math
1Lifetime Math
- Presenting Personal Finance Topics in a Fun and
Engaging Setting
2The Case for Personal Finance Literacy
- The Jumptart Coalition for Personal Finance
Literacy conducts a financial literacy survey of
high school seniors nationwide. - According to the latest survey conducted in 2004
- The average senior answered only 52.3 of the
questions correctly - 65.6 percent of all students failed the exam
3The Case for Personal Finance Literacy
- Adults dont fare much better
- Over 40 of families live on 110 of their income
- The average credit card balance for the age
between 45 and 64 is 6,094 - 75 of credit card holders have maxed out at
least one credit card during the past year - It takes decades to pay off a 3000 credit card
balance if you pay only the minimum each month
4The Case for Personal Finance Literacy
- The future is bleak
- 23 of Americans dont save anything at all for
long-term goals (i.e. education, retirement) - Between 25 and 56 million adults are unbanked

had no retirement savings at all
5The Case for Personal Finance Literacy
- Young adults are suffering as well
- Personal bankruptcies were up 19 in 2002 over
2001 - The fastest growing group declaring bankruptcy is
young adults age 20 to 24 - Nearly 1 in 7 households filed bankruptcy over
the past decade - More people will file for bankruptcy this year
than will graduate from college or file for
divorce
