Overview
  • The contribution of Iranians to the foundations
    of the computer revolution.
  • Achievements of Iranian school children and
    students on the international level.
  • One year of SAF projects.

Foundation of our Computer RevolutionThe
Decimal System
  • 3042 3000 40 2
  • Imagine computing in the Roman system CCXXXII
    times XLVIII, i.e. 232 x 48.
  • Zero was invented by Indian mathematicians, who
were inspired by the Babylonian and the Chinese
number systems, particularly as used in abacuses.

4
The Discovery of Decimal Fractions
  • Persians and Arabs invented the representation of
decimal fractions that we use today
  • 3042.75
  • They discovered the rules for basic arithmetic
operations that we now learn in school.

  • Completed the development of arithmetic
    algorithms for fractions.
  • Computed ? up to 16 decimal places

The Information Revolution
  • Computers and the Internet are radically changing
    our life on this planet.
  • The impact of this revolution is deeper and more
    extensive than any previous technological
    invention.

13
The Moral of Our Story
  • History has imposed a reversal of fortune
Nations who developed the foundation of our
present computer revolution in the very dark ages
of Europe, later experienced a much stifled
    development.
  • World Economic Forum, Dec 99 Left by itself, the
Internet will sharpen the digital divide.
  • The Internet can be a global equaliser if, and
only if, we make it available to the youth of the
    developing countries.
