6-Acquired its name from the early Latin-speaking
students -Home to many of Pariss monuments.
7-Pariss oldest university. -Built in 1253 by Rob
ert de Sorbon. -He built it to teach 16 poor stud
ents about theology. -Now it has over 2 million w
orks in its library, and a growing student body.
8-In 1469, 3 printing machines were brought over
and used inside the Sorbonne making it the first
printing house in France. -Has a very high intern
ational reputation and is placed among Europe's
most important university.
9-In 1792 it was closed by the Revolutionary
Government but was later reopened by Napoleon.
-After the pope approved the idea of teaching
students without money, it became the University
of Paris. -The only remnants of the old college i
s the trace of the chapel.
