Pack 185 Happenings
March 2006
Cubmaster Minute Its been another great month in
Pack 185!  I want to thank all the Scouts,
Scouters, and family members who made our
activities such a success. Scouting for Food
exceeded all our expectations, collecting 397
cans of food for the needy in our area.  The
overnight excursion to the USS Hornet proved a
fine time for all, and while the weather couldve
been a little warmer, no one seemed to mind.  But
theres more fun to come We have graduation in
May, where we will recognize the hard work of our
boys over the past year, and there is plenty of
stuff to keep us busy over the summer Raingutter
Regatta, Twilight Camp, the July 4th Parade, and
Camp Lassen, among other things.  Im looking
forward to it all and hope to see you there.
Upcoming Training Online Youth Protection All
Committee members and Den Leaders and parents
attending Twilight Camp or Resident Camp have to
have this. It is online at www.gec-bsa.org
click on resources and then youth protection.
Print the congratulations page and bring to your
den leader for credit. Takes about one
hour. Online Fast Start Training All Committee
members and Den Leaders To be completed within
48 hours of becoming a registered Leader with the
pack. It is online at www.gec-bsa.org click on
resources and then Cub Scout Fast Start.  Takes
about one hour.
New Leader Essentials All Committee members and
Den Leaders Held at District Roundtable 730 pm
either Thursday, March 16 and Thursday April 20
at  Rocklin Stake Center of the LDS Church, 2610
Sierra Meadows Dr., Rocklin, CA.  We need every
parent/leader trained so that the boys get the
quality program they deserve. Takes about 1 ½
hours. Specific Basic Leader Training All New
Committee Members and Den Leaders promoting.
Check in 730 am, Saturday, March 25, 2006.

Sierra Meadows Dr., Rocklin, CA.  We need every
parent/leader trained so that the boys get the
quality program they deserve. Takes between 3 to
4 hours. BALOO Training Basic Adult Leader
Outdoor Orientation Training will take place on
May 6. Cub Scouts can only go camping if
accompanied by a BALOO Trained Leader. All Day
Training. Upcoming Events Pizza Night
Fundraiser We will be having a Pizza Night
Fundraiser at Roundtable Pizza on Monday, April
3rd from 5pm -9pm at Roundtable Pizza in the
Safeway Shopping Center. Come in uniform. The
boys will clean tables, sweep, fill napkins, wash
dishes, serve pizzas make boxes and whatever
else the pizza parlor ask of us. In turn we will
get 20 of the take out and dine in orders. So
we will be handing out flyers to let people know
we are doing this.
Twilight Camp We are officially signed up for the
Sierra Gateway District Twilight Camp for June
12-16 Penryn Park. 430-800. Bring a sack
dinner and no open toe shoes. Shirts will be
provided. It is great event and this year the
theme is Cubs in the Pacific and is based
around the Polynesian culture. I have to tell
you for years we have said our pack is small but
we are mighty. We have 90 of our boys
participating in camp and so far three Boy Scouts
helping. Go Team!!! Camp Lassen We are also
officially signed up for Camp Lassen. We have
four boys signed up and one more in the process.
As soon as camp Lassen puts out its information
I will make up packets to distribute. Remainder
of the balance is due by the May 5th Parent
Meeting. What you need to do now is make a
doctors appointment to have a physical done for
your son and yourself to be able to go. Get the
physical form from Sue tonight. March
Happenings Scouting for Food Saturday March 4 was
National Scouting for Food Day this year Pack 185
and Troop 185 worked together collecting food on
the east side of town. Derron and Amrin from
Bear Den 2 and Nicholas from Tiger Cub Den 1
worked all morning with Troop 185 and collected
397 cans of food that was donated to the Salt
Mine here in Lincoln and it will stay with the
needy families in Lincoln. Please go up shake
their hands and let them know how much they
helped the community.

U.S.S. Hornet What a howling success on Saturday,
March 11 every single boy in the pack and Alans
sister, Hayley a Girl Scout here in Lincoln spent
the night on the Hornet. I heard everyone had a
great time and Amrin even got to fall off the
stage, but he was fine. I also heard that
several of the parents came home tired ? New
Committee Members Pack 185 wants to thank Marlon
Bateman for stepping up and becoming the
Committee Chair for our pack and Rhonda Russ for
becoming the Secretary. Woo Hoo!!! Marlon has
already attended New Leader Essentials Training
last night at the Sierra Gateway District
Roundtable Meeting and Rhonda is going to attend
next month. Both will be attending Specific
Leader Training tomorrow morning with Scott
Parker for Cubmaster and Marshall Moran for
Webelos Leader. We are still in need of a
Treasurer and an Advancement Chair if you think
you might be interested please see Marlon or Sue
for roles and responsibility sheets and what to
expect. Remember we all have our boys in scouts
for a reason and the more you put into the
program the more your son gets out of the
program!!! Awards Congratulations to Pack 185
for receiving the Quality Unit Award status from
the National Boy Scouts of America for giving the
outstanding program that this pack gets from all
of our leadership.
Pack 185 will start a old tradition of handing
out patches for activities and trips that the
boys do. What we do is at the scout shop the
have red felt vest that are called brag vest and
all of the boys sew or glue their patches on this
vest and it becomes a part of their uniform. We
can take orders and pick these vest up at the
Scout Shop they run about 9.00 a piece. Let Sue
know if you want to have one picked up for
you. Tiger Cubs The Tiger Cubs have been busy
working on earning their beads and having fun on
their Go See Its all of them went on the U.S.S.
Hornet. All four boys Ward, Alan, Nicholas and
Ben earned their Ultimate Beltloop. with the help
of their Den Chief, Drew. Ward, Alan and
Nicholas will receive the Blue and Gold patch and
Ward, Alan, Ben and Nicholas will receive their
U.S.S. Hornet patch and Nicholas will receive the
Scouting for Food Patch Way to go
Tigers!!! Bears The Bears have been very busy
they have been in scouts for three weeks and both
Amrin and Derron have earned their Bobcat rank
and both of them have earned their Chess
Belt loop and both will receive the Blue and Gold
patch, the U.S.S. Hornet patch and the Scouting
for Food patch. WHEW!!! Webelos Soaring Eagle
Den All three Webelos David, Carlos and Marcos
have earned their Traveler Activity Pin working
in conjunction with the trip to the
U.S.S. Hornet Webelos badge. They are getting
closer and closer to the ultimate Arrow of Light
Award. Yeah!!! Scout Trivia Did you know that
Boy Scouting was starting in 1908 in England by
Lord Baden Powell and brought over to America
where Boy Scouts of America began in 1910. Boy
Scouts of America is chartered by the United
States Congress. The Golden Empire Council was
started in 1922. The Sierra Gateway District was
started in 2001 and Pack 185 was started in 2000
and is chartered by Mt Pleasant Baptist Church.
Pack 185 was started with five boys, all Bears,
by Tim and Sue Martin and John and Susan
Yoshikawa whom are still with Troop 185.
Newcomer We would like to welcome new Tiger Cub
Jon and his family to Pack 185. Next Months
Meeting Aprils Pack Meeting will be held April
21 at the First Street School Cafeteria. Parent
Meetings All Parent Meeting will be held the
first Friday of the Month at 700 at First Street
School Cafeteria. We would like to see a parent
from each family if possible. Happy St
