Things Parents Should Know About Homework
  • There will always be at least some homework each
    night
  • You can find each days homework assignments on
    my website
  • You can assist your child but do not do the
    homework for him
  • Remind your child not to spend too much time on
one problem, if they cant do it they can ask the
teacher for help the next day

11
How to Encourage
  • Portray positive attitude towards all academic
    areas
  • Take time out to help with homework and listen to
    your childs concerns about school
  • Let them know its O.K. to make mistakes as long
    as they learn from them
  • Be excited about what they are learning

12
Warning Signs That Your Child May Have a Learning
Disability
  • Spoken Language delays, disorders, and
    deviations in speaking
  • Written Language difficulties in reading,
    writing, spelling
  • Math difficulty in performing operation or
    understanding basic concepts
  • Reasoning difficulty in organizing thoughts
  • Memory difficulty in remembering instructions

13
Be Mindful of the following
  • All people from time to time have some of these
problems and it doesnt mean they are LD
  • Among LD populations, some symptoms are more
    common than others
  • The number of symptoms seen in a particular child
does not give an indication as to whether the
disability is mild or sever. It is important to
consider if the behaviors are chronic and appear
    in clusters

14
How a childs misbehavior will be corrected in
this classroom
  • Teacher will state limits and class rules calmly
and clearly reminding the child how he should be
    behaving
  • If the child wishes for something possibly the
teacher will point out how his wish may be
partially fulfilled and still stay within the
    limits of the classroom
  • Teacher will express how she understands how the
rules of the class sometimes conflict with what
the students want but she will explain why the
    rule exists

15
Classroom Management Continued
  • Other children may be able to explain in an
organized manner, (one hand at a time) to the
student how his behavoir may be a distraction to
    them
  • If child cant work in the class, he will have to
be moved to an isolated environment

16
Necessary Support Adjustments
  • All necessary support and adjustments will be
provided for each student depending on his
individualized needs according to the students
I.E.P. However, do not hesitate to contact me
with any concerns or suggestions that will make
your childs school day more beneficial to his
learning. I would be happy to discuss any ideas
with you and bring any or your suggestions to our
school administration for review. My door is
always open and parents and students are always
    welcome
