1. Present and future of the nuclear industry in
Europe

• As of May 10, 2006 there were a total of 203
  nuclear power plant units with an installed
  electric net capacity of 171 858 MWe in operation
  in Europe and 10 units with 9 836 MWe were under
  construction in five countries.
• Near future of European nuclear
• Finland began construction on a nuclear reactor
  last year
• France has given approval for one reactor and
  has plans for another
• Bulgaria is expected to award a contract for
  building two units
• Romania has resumed building one reactor and
  plans to restart to commission another two
• Czech Republic has plans to build two more
  nuclear plants by the end of the decade
• Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, Italy and Germany
  are all reconsidering previous plans to cap or
  phase out nuclear programs.

professionals

• Based on the presented actual and future status,
  there are a number
• of concerns regarding the assuring of the
  manpower for the nuclear
• industry across the Europe
• The decreasing number and the dilution of nuclear
  programmes
• The decreasing number of students taking nuclear
  subjects
• The lack of young professionals to replace ageing
  and retiring members
• Ageing facilities, which are being closed and not
  replaced
• The significant fraction of nuclear graduates not
  entering the nuclear industry
