8The t-Infrastructure
- Why t-infrastructure?
- e-Infrastructure for production
- t-Infrastructure for training
- Need guaranteed response for tutorials limit the
vulnerability of production systems - use training grid
- have training CA
- able to change middleware to prepare participants
for future releases on production system - Also
- need safe resources for installation training
- easy entry point for new communities

20GILDA UI on a Virtual Machine(https//gilda.ct.in
fn.it/VirtualServices.html)
In order to allow all windowss users to access
the grid, we have created a User Interface into a
Virtual Machine builded with VMWare Workstation
5.5. Thanks to the free VMWare-Player tool, any
Windows users can run an UI on a Windows
environment ! For more details and

26GILDA summary numbers
- 19 sites in 3 continents
- gt 3300 certificates issued, 15 renewed at least
once - gt 100 tutorials and demos performed in two years
- gt 1,200,000 hits (gt 60,000 visits) on (of) the
web site from 10s of different countries - gt 1 TB of videos and UIs
- downloaded from the web site
27GILDA in EGEE-2 vs. ICEAGE
- EGEE-2
- more focus on tutorials both induction events
and advanced courses - platform for new communities to start developing
the interfaces between their applications and
gLite - ICEAGE
- more focus on education and e-learning
- support platform for courses, theses, schools,
stages
28GILDA at the University
- 2 PhD Theses have been done using GILDA (1 in
France and 1 in Germany) and two more are in
preparation (Turkey) - 11 degree theses (Computer Science and Computer
Engineering at the University of Catania) have
been done on grid using GILDA - GILDA is used in several university curricula in
Italy, France, and Austria - 8 students of Computer Science at University of
Catania hosted so far by the GILDA Team for
300-hours stages on distributed and grid
computing - GILDA has been used for ISSGC04, ISSGC05, and
CSC05 and will be adopted also by ISSGC06 and
CSC06
29Summary and Outlook (1/2)
- GILDA is a de facto standard for
t-Infrastructures - GILDA is/will be used not only by EGEE-2 and
ICEAGE but also by BIOINFOGRID, COREGRID, EELA,
EUCHINAGRID, EUMEDGRID, HEALTH-E-CHILD, and by
several italian national and regional grid
projects - GILDA can then be used by ICEAGE as a common
tool/platform to inoculate the ICEAGE
principles into the EGEE Related Projects thus
reaching a bigger number of people
30Summary and Outlook (2/2)
- In order to do that we need
- to identify as soon as possible all the persons
who will work in WP4 - to create as soon as possible the Projects
collaboration tools (web site, mailing lists,
agenda, document server, wiki, weblog, support
service, etc.) - to increase the number of GILDA sites/machines
- to increase the offer in terms of available
middlewares (gLite 3, GT4, OMII-EU, Condor, etc.)
- to encourage as much as possible the use of GILDA
in academic curricula and university courses - to make an inventory of courses and curricula
already established
