22YCG is trying to convince the G8 Countries to
provide bigger boat 22-25m to join these centers
to secure international navigation lanes in Gulf
of Aden specially from piracy.
23Safe lane which is close to the Yemeni
territorial water. These centers need to be
equipped.
24Despite the presence of the coalition forces in
the Somali territorial water and international
water in Gulf of Aden, the problem still there
and can not be solved because of
- The wide maritime area in gulf of Aden.
- The ineffective presence because there is no
coordination between the various countries
fighting piracy. - There are no international unified regulation
to deal with the piracy issue. - The high coast for the military ships presence
in the area. - The long Somali cost line.
25- Yemen point of view to stop piracy
- in Gulf of Aden
- The international community should support
having effective government in Somalia. - The world community specially permanent security
council members should play major role to solve
the Somali issue. - Assist regional countries to play an active role
in fighting piracy. - Obtaining a real and serious international
cooperation against piracy.
26Conclusion
- Yemen is the only country in the region can play
a major role in fighting piracy, because of - Yemen strategic position
- Existence of Yemen Coast Guard.
- The high cost for the military ships presence in
the area. - The qualified personnel in the YCG
- YCG role in fighting piracy will be effective
when we get at lest (20 boat) not less then 25m
for long range patrolling - and the estimated cost will be about 40-50
million US.
