2Something To Think About!
- Paul begins 1 Corinthians 2 with a passionate
explanation of his presentation of the gospel to
the Corinthians. He says he came not with
Excellency of speech or of wisdom . . . . For I
determined not to know any thing among you, save
Jesus Christ, and him crucified (verses 1-2).
Paul is not comparing how he preached in other
cities or to other people he is contrasting his
approach in Corinth to the other teachers who
were in Corinth before and after him.
3The True Wisdom
4KEY VERSE
1 Corinthians 214 But the natural man
receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God
for they are foolishness unto him neither can he
know them, because they are spiritually
discerned.
5- Lesson Objectives
- To contrast human wisdom and spiritual wisdom
- To rely upon the Holy Spirit for help in
understanding spiritual truths - To understand the differences between a spiritual
and natural person
6- THE METHOD OF PAULS MINISTRY
- 1 Corinthians 21-5
- Fleshly Confidence Rejected (1-3)
- 1 Cor. 117-31 1 Cor. 927 Acts 189-10
- The Secret of Success (4-5)
7- How often do you attempt to share the gospel,
serve others, or perform a good deed in your own
strength, on your own terms? Surely the most
effective ministers of the gospel have been those
who have been aware of their own weaknesses, and
yet deeply concerned about reaching people for
Christ. Our weaknesses should cause us to trust
in God more completely.
8A WISDOM HIDDEN AND REVEALED 1 Corinthians
26-10 The True Wisdom Unknown (6-8) Luke
2334 The Spirits Revelation (9-10) John 1613-14
9- As New Testament believers, we have the Holy
Spirit as our teacher and comfort. We are not on
our own! When Gods Word seems confusing to you,
when you cannot find the best solution, when you
are facing lifes difficulties, ask the Holy
Spirit to give you wisdom
10 THE TRUE SPIRITUAL WISDOM 1 Corinthians
211-16 Knowing the Things of God (11-13) The
Spiritual Mind (14-16) John 36 2 Cor. 517
Isaiah 4013
11- Think about the benefits of being Gods child.
How does the Holy Spirit work in your life on a
day to day basis? How often do you take His
presence, His aid, for granted? How often do you
praise Him for His work in your life? How have
you become a new creation in Christ?
12- QUESTIONS FOR STUDY AND DISCUSSION
1. What is the proper interpretation of 1
Corinthians 29? 2. Why was Paul so careful not
to use enticing words or powerful rhetoric in
his ministry to the Corinthians? 3. How much
attention should be given to the words that a
preacher uses or the development of his ability
as a speaker? Explain your answer. 4. How did
the Holy Spirit reveal truth to Paul? How does
He reveal truth to you? 5. Why cannot the
natural man discern spiritual things? How does
this relate to Romans 120-22? 6. How do Pauls
words to the Corinthians in chapter 2 apply to
you as a 21st century Christian?
