2Something To Think About!
- Despite the current emphasis on spiritual gifts,
there is still an amazing amount of confusion and
ignorance on that subject. Todays lesson
provides a wonderful opportunity to let the Bible
address the whole matter of spiritual gifts.
After all, what the Bible has to say is what is
important, not human experience or church bias.
3The Gifts of the Spirit
4KEY VERSE
1 Corinthians 1212 For as the body is one, and
hath many members, and all the members of that
one body, being many, are one body so also is
Christ.
5- Lesson Objectives
- To discern the purpose of spiritual gifts
- To accept whatever spiritual gift one has with
humility and gratitude - To use ones spiritual gift to benefit the Church
and bring glory to Christ
6- THE ONE ORIGIN OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS
- 1 Corinthians 124-11
- The Same Spirit (4-7)
- The Several Gifts (8-11)
- 1 Cor. 1228-29 Romans 126-8 Ephesians 411
1 Peter 410-11 1 Cor.132 Heb. 11 Acts
936-41 1618 51-10 139-11 1 Cor. 114-5
1 John 41 1 Cor.1429 1 Thess. 520-21 - Acts 26b 243 512 2 Cor. 1212 Heb. 23-4
7- It is important to remember that it is the Holy
Spirit who gives the spiritual gift. Thus, if He
gives, then He equips. Sometimes Christians, like
Moses and many other Bible characters, run from
Gods choice service. A host of reasons cause
this balk at Godfear, pride, laziness, feelings
of unworthiness or lack of ability, etc. However,
trust the God who gives and provides to use you
in ways pleasing to Him. Do not let Satan weaken
the church by your excuses.
8THE HARMONIOUS FUNCTION OF THE GIFTS 1
Corinthians 1212-17 One Body (12-13) An
Illustration (14-17)
9- Every part of the body is vitally important in
carrying out its various functions. To press
Pauls image a little further, if the body were
only an eye or an ear, how could it use the
information it received? How could it laugh at
humor or appreciate beauty? How could it eat or
speak or sing without a mouth? How could it move
about without feet and legs? How could it feel
objects or soothe an itch without hands?
10UNITY IN DIVERSITY 1 Corinthians 1218-31 The
One and the Many (18-21) Caring for One Another
(22-26) Differing Places to Fill (27-31) 1
Corinthians 310 Ephesians 411 Romans128
11- It is paramount for the believer to fight against
and shrug off the temptations to coddle feelings
of entitlement or envy when their minds wander
down the path of comparison. This most assuredly
blinds the believer to Gods prodding. Remember
to funnel the energies, often given to fear,
worry, and envy, to nurturing a relationship with
Christ and being the best at following His will.
12- QUESTIONS FOR STUDY AND DISCUSSION
- 1. What is the purpose of spiritual gifts? To
whom are spiritual gifts given? - 2. Do you think every believer has some spiritual
gift? What gifts are to be coveted? Use Scripture
to support your answer. - 3. What is your spiritual gift? Are you using it
properly? - 4. What is the fundamental ingredient for the
effective exercise of any spiritual gift? - 5. The gift of tongues was causing a great deal
of trouble at Corinth. Why do you think Paul said
so little about this gift in this chapter? - 6. Why do you think there has been such an
increased emphasis on the gifts of the Spirit in
recent years? Do you think that increased
emphasis has been good or bad for the church?
