Redistricting - Why?
  • Half of existing current elementary schools are
    over- crowded and the remainder of the schools
    are projected to be at capacity in the near
    future.
  • Some classes being taught in closets
  • Average class size is growing
  • Implement the neighborhood school concept at the
    elementary schools to improve our students
    educational experience.
  • Keep average class size in low 20
  • Create dedicated Art and Music Rooms
  • Create formal room Special Education classes
  • Foster school and community partnerships to
    improve communication and parent participation.
  • Allow for further student population growth at
    each school for the next 10 years.
  • Better utilization of the existing buildings.
  • September 2009 A new elementary school is
    available
  • Day care and babysitting services not used as
    criteria

  • Proposed Plan developed in partnership with
    School Principals
  • Principals were asked to provide a configuration
    that improved the learning environment of their
    students
  • Seeking input from the parents on the
    redistricting plan..
  • Two Public forums
  • Proactive communication with the parents.

  • One ESL teacher teaches groups of students in a
    portion of the teacher lounge/resource room
  • One reading specialist teaches groups at the top
    of the stairwell in the hallway
  • Literacy coach teaches small groups in the
    teacher resource book room
  • No classroom for RTI teacher
  • Computer Technology Specialist works out of art
    closet
  • Math specialists must share a very small meeting
    room
  • Dental program services administered in the
    shower room
  • PHP-IU class- uses a chemical supply room

    for small group teaching space
  • IST and RTI interventionists will share a room
    and teach children in a classroom.
  • Literacy coach and PHP-IU/or other IU class will
    share a classroom space for both small group
    instruction and timeout space.
  • The librarian will have an office which will
    double as a work room.
  • Math specialist and the dental prgm will divide
    and share one classroom space into two areas to
    provide a safe working space for the dental
    service and allowing for both math specialists to
    conduct small groups simultaneously without
    disrupting other classroom instruction.
  • Computer technology specialist will utilize a
    classroom for all tech. equipment and student
    instruction

    area.
  • The reading specialist teaches in the nurse's
    area.
  • The IS teacher teaches in the library workroom.
  • The RTI interventionist teaches in the guidance
    area.
  • The occupational therapist works in the nurse's
    area when available.
  • The outside counselor shares space with
    enrichment teacher.
  • The ESOL teacher teaches in a converted locker
    room.
