Olsztyn is a town with the population of 180 000
people, situated in north-eastern Poland. It lies
among lakes and forests, 200 km north of Warsaw,
the capital of our country. Olsztyn is the
capital city of Warmia and Mazury, famous for its
long history as much as for the exceptionally
picturesque landscapes, with the biggest number
of lakes throughout all Poland and large areas of
woodland. Our town is surrounded by a large
municipal forest, which contains four floral
nature reserves, one of which protects peatbog
plants. While hiking across the forest you can
spot deer or wild boar. Olsztyn belongs to the
Federation of Nicolas Copernicus Towns,other
members of the Federation include Bologna, Cracow
and Torun. Apart from Olsztyn Castle dated from
tha 14th century you can also visit the High
Gate, the Old Town Hall, St Jamess Cathedral and
the Jerusalem Chapel.
